What is Halloween without a spooky scene in a graveyard?

Nikki Kriaski must agree because that's where this tale of witchcraft takes place. Follow Alice and her sister Gladys get up to no good in the wee hours of the morning.

This story is full of charming imagery that will take you along with them as they race to the end of the night.

You're being drawn deeper and deeper into a dark forest. And something is watching you.

All of that and more in James Hancock's flash fiction piece, "Calling."

We'd love to hear your thoughts as to what's drawing the protagonist is!

If you want to check out the rest of the story, you can! Just click that link in our bio and download your free copy of Issue 3.

James writes stories that are a little bizarre. He enjoys taking readers down strange and seldom trodden paths. Often dark, and always with a twist or two along the way. Comedy, thriller, horror, and weird fairy tales. Stories to make you laugh. Stories to make you cry. Stories to make you leave the bedroom light on. But most importantly, stories you will want to share with your friends. But they might not thank you for it. He lives in England with his wife and two daughters. And a bunch of pets he insisted his girls could NOT have.

The poems Eliezer Lopez submitted to Issue 3 "revolve around the quiet moments of healing that are bitter-sweet with pain."

Halloween isn't always about the monsters that go bump in the night. It's also about fighting the demons within.

Eliezer's brilliant personification of resentment gives us something tangible to fight against.

You can read the full poem by clicking the link in our bio and downloading your free copy of Issue 3.

Eliezer Lopez is a senior at the University of Central Florida currently majoring in Creative Writing. His work has previously been published in the 'BloodLust Anthology' and 'The Cypress Dome.' He currently resides in Walla Walla, Washington.

Our first prose piece in Issue 3 is brought to you by Udita Mukherjee!

Udita's story, "Chudail," looks at the origins of the Chudail, a mythical demonic(?) creature from South-Southeast Asia that resembles a woman. The Chudail is typically described as "the ghost of an unpurified living thing," She is often seen latching onto trees.

Udita gives her version of this mythical creature's origins. It's a bit gruesome, but it fits in perfectly with spooky season!

Udita Mukherjee's first book, From A to Z, was published in Pride Month 2021, and it features q***r leads. Her poems and stories have appeared in several zines, blogs, and anthologies and her first play was part of the Bombay Theatre Company's TTP 2020. Additionally, Udita's artworks were in the Pride Liberates STW Community Video and in the Pride magazine published by Coin-Operated Press. She loves women uplifting women, sad lyrics with happy tunes, and sobbing through animated movies.

🎶 Yoo-ho-ho! A pirate's life for me! 🎶

Denise Alden kicks off the week before All Hallows Eve with a tale of a gruesome pirate - "Pirate Jenny."

Beware thee who cross her path! She's a blood-thirsty-lass.

Denise Alden based her pirate's tale on Weill and Brecht’s "The Threepenny Opera." Along with "Mack the Knife," "Pirate Jenny" is one of the more well-known songs from the ballad opera.

Alden did an amazing job on this poem, and we're so glad to have it in Issue 3 of The Sunshine Review!

If you want to read it in full, you can do so by clicking the link in our bio!

Denise Alden lives and writes in the Twin Cities, and some of her work can be found at Hecate Magazine, Scalawag Magazine, The Sock Drawer, and forthcoming in Holy Flea!

We want to say this is a piece, but it's Tuesday.

Either way, Denise Alden is going to take us back to a simpler time in her poem, "The Way Back."

This emotionally charged poem packs a punch with its excellent imagery and the need to get back to normal.

You can check out the full piece by clicking the link in our bio and downloading your free copy of Issue 3!

And don't forget to tune in to check out the snippet from Denise's second poem ("Pirate Jenny") in Issue 3. We'll be dropping that sometime next week.
