a page that aims to share information and offer helpful advice to all marine and harbor users. My name is Ken Bryski and I have lived and worked on the waters of BC since 1953. Since July of 2005 my wife Cheryl and I have managed the Ladysmith Fisherman's Wharf. Cheryl has managed the day to day operation of the marina while I was able to enjoy my fun life as a commercial fisherman. My brother Pete, who fished with me for many years when we were younger has also recently retired. Between the three of us we have over 180 years of coastal marine experience. Through this page the three of us will be happy to help you get the safest and most enjoyable experience you can while enjoying and transiting our waters.

Make sure that you are checking your boat often, especially this time of year when there's lots of rain. The Miss Kelly was once a beautiful west coast salmon troller.

The salmon license was sold in one of the buyback programs and the boat was sold to someone who originally had good but misguided intentions. He spent quite a bit of money on it and had it looking pretty spiffy.

But that was as far as he got and the boat remained tied to the dock until this happened. Unfortunately, I've seen this happen many times over the past 20 years. The boat was demolished.

I find that this time of year is one of the best times of the year to catch a feed of nice Dungeness crab. I like to boil them whole and clean them after they are done. I drop the crab into rapidly boiling water and boil for about 13 minutes. The start of a great night bite of albacore tuna on August 8, 2013. The boys can usually pull around 150 fish per hour and if I can keep them on the fish, they can fill the freezer plates in about two hours. If you follow the progression of the wind sock, you can tell that I am slowly circling over top of the school of tuna trying to keep the boat over the best part of the school. As I see the fish pass under the boat, I'm letting the boys know to throw more bait. We would try to throw about 30 pounds of anchovy chum in the water for every hundred fish. Effective use of chum, can double or triple your catch. At least that's what I believe. I've also used herring and sardines, but fresh frozen anchovies is best. We would usually take about 750 pounds of bait per trip.
