*We have some important news to share.*
Unfortunately, our old IG account was taken down by Instagram for reasons beyond our understanding. Please give our new account a follow! (link below)
We also want to take this opportunity to announce that Textile is entering a new chapter.
As a litmag, we have always been passionate about the written word and publication. Supporting storytelling is what we do, and people—especially those living on the margins—need to tell stories in multifaceted ways.
While we will stay true to our literary roots, we plan to expand our scope through curation, performances, and special events. We believe these diverse modes of expression will build up Waterloo region's cultural offerings and support and ecosystem of critical interventions within the local arts discourse.
We often find ourselves sitting in the tension between pressures to grow, and our desire to stay small and thoughtful. Textile emerged out of our relationship with Waterloo Region, a culmination of community and youth work that grew into a social art practice. We have always been grassroots, resisting the trajectory into the non-profit industrial complex.
As we move forward, we want to continue pushing back against the myth of productivity and need to professionalize that often besets magazines and journals by doing things differently — moving slower, being more intentional, and prioritizing mentorship.
We appreciate your continued support and look forward to embarking on this new journey with you.
