Huge thank you to General Brock's Commissary who were stocked and ready to help me whip together a few different charcuterie boards over the weekend! Their Carnivore box was perfect - I was able to hand pick from their selection of locally sourced meats, cheeses, and condiments. Added some fresh fruit, Wheat Kings breads, and some hungry guests and hosting was a breeze.

WE-CAN Client Profile: Jackie Wright is the co-owner of Shop.Local.Kingston, a new venture which officially launches in the summer of 2023. She is also a member of the new WE-CAN Early Stage Mastermind.

After supporting small businesses with their digital marketing needs for the past six years, Jackie noticed that many businesses lacked an effective online presence.

“Coming out of the pandemic, businesses need help boosting sales in a way that is low-cost and labour-efficient,” she observes. “The idea of creating an online marketplace for Kingston local businesses is one that would offer important exposure, enhanced customer experience through local delivery, and all while keeping costs and labour low for business owners.”

Jackie has now partnered with local entrepreneur Tim O’Hara of Hulpr to make Shop Local Kingston come to life.

The online marketplace will serve the Kingston community including business owners and those who support them.

“Shop Local Kingston is being designed to offer a variety of goods from locally owned product-based businesses as well as business listings for locally owned service-based businesses to encourage bookings and calls,” she shares.

“The easier something is, the more likely people are to do it,” Jackie adds. "I'm excited to offer a streamlined approach for Kingston locals --and eventually beyond-- to support their favourite businesses, all in one shopping bag, with one transaction, from the comfort of their home. I know how busy our business owners are, so to create something that can help them grow without the extra time demands is something we're very proud of.”

Of her experience with the WE-CAN Project so far, Jackie says, “My experience with WE-CAN started only a few months ago and I can't believe I was trying to do it all out on my own before. The webinars, connections, masterminds and community perks have helped me feel supported and excited to grow another business. I am very grateful to be part of something so positive and impactful in the lives of women entrepreneurs.”
