The RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit (NEN MCU) is investigating the suspicious death of a woman in Bible Hill on January 3 as a homicide.

On January 3 at approximately 9:30 am, Colchester County District RCMP responded to a home on Bomber Dr. as part of a wellbeing check and located a deceased 42-year-old woman and an unconscious man who was transported to hospital.

The woman’s death was considered suspicious and NEN MCU took lead of the investigation, supported by Colchester County District RCMP, Truro Police Service, RCMP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.

The Medical Examiner Service has ruled the death a homicide. Investigators have executed search warrants to collect supporting evidence and NEN MCU continues to lead the investigation with support from RCMP Forensic Identification Services (FIS). There is no evidence to suggest a risk to the public or that the homicide is an incident of intimate partner violence.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the NEN MCU at 902-896-5060 and reference file number 2025-10877. To remain anonymous, contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers toll free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submit a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca, or use the P3 Tips App.

Our thoughts continue to be with the woman's loved ones at this difficult time.

CAPE BRETON POLICE ASK FOR PUBLIC'S HELP IN FINDING JUSTIN MACDONALD'S REMAINS
JAN 09 2025...Natalie Lombard....CTV.
Police in Cape Breton are asking for the public’s help in finding the remains of a missing man they believe was murdered.
Kenneth “Justin” MacDonald, 34, was last seen on surveillance footage at the Irving gas station on Commercial Street in North Sydney, N.S., on July 7, 2024. He was reported missing the next day.
Investigators found his vehicle, a blue Kia Forte, roughly 25 kilometers away in the Ormand Crescent area of Mira Road on July 10.
Police announced in November they were treating his disappearance as a homicide.
Three men were arrested and charged last month in connection with MacDonald’s disappearance and murder.
Aaron Curtis Mickey, 45, is charged with second-degree murder, robbery and four firearm-related offences.
Ryan Joseph Pyke, 36, is charged with second-degree murder and robbery.
Mitchell McPhee, 38, is charged with manslaughter, robbery and assault.
All three men are scheduled to appear in court later this month.
Cape Breton Regional Police answered reporters questions during a media availability about the case Thursday morning. They confirmed a firearm and robbery are connected to the case, but wouldn’t provide any additional information.
“This has been an incredibly difficult time for the MacDonald family, and we hope that these arrests will bring them some degree of closure as they continue to mourn the loss of their son,” Cape Breton Regional Police Chief Robert Walsh told reporters.
Walsh said, despite an extensive six-month investigation, MacDonald’s body has not been found.
Police say they have followed up on hundreds of tips and searched more than 50 locations in the CBRM with drones and K9 units.
“I ask that if there’s anyone in the public who has any information related to this matter, please come forward at this time. It’s never too late to do the right thing. Help us to bring Justin home to his family,” Walsh said.
Police say MacDonald’s death was an isolated incident and not a random act.
Insp. Joe Farrell also spoke to media Thursday. He said some of the people involved in the case are known to one another, though he wouldn’t speak to the relationship between them.
There are also additional people police plan to speak to and other charges may be possible.
Police say their investigation will continue until MacDonald is found, and while there is no current active search, investigators will follow up on any leads.
“I’m hopeful that we definitely could find Justin MacDonald to provide answers to the family, also to provide answers to the community, as they’ve also been following this incident very closely over the last number of months,” Farrell said.

In just one year, this program will license more doctors than the old system did in five. 🩺

This new centre is changing how we train and license doctors in Nova Scotia—here’s how it works:

✅ Four internationally trained graduates are providing care for 2,500 patients under the supervision of Nova Scotian doctors to evaluate their skills.
✅ The program will expand to support over 6,400 patients as more doctors join.
✅ Once the doctors pass, they get their license and sign a three-year return-to-service agreement, keeping them right here in Nova Scotia.

This is a faster, smarter way to bring more healthcare professionals into the system—helping us deliver better care for every Nova Scotian. 🚑

The snow continues to pile up in parts of the Cape Breton Highlands. Judith Brennan said it was like a whole different world travelling there from CBRM. She shared this photo yesterday from Egypt Road in Margaree.

The nearby automated weather station in North East Margaree is reporting close to 70 cm of current snow depth, and North Mountain has over 110 cm — some of which was from prior snowfall. Parts of the highlands could see another 15-25 cm by Friday afternoon!

The Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation of suspicious sudden deaths in Mahone Bay that were found to be the result of intimate partner violence.
