On Tuesday, the CEO of Instagram provided confirmation around the need to shift towards video on the platform. Although the platform says they won't give up on photos, he continued on to say:

"If you look at what people like, and consume, and view on Instagram, that is also shifting more and more to video over time... So we have to lean into that shift."

Developing Content Pillars for your brand is incredibly important and make planning social media content so much easier. The first step to using this content strategy is identifying three to four topics relevant to your brand – these will be the main topics you want to discuss.

Rather than scrambling to post content every day, this strategy will allow you to strategically build your content calendar in advance. Ultimately, it leads to effective content that builds your brand.

Here’s some examples to help understand this content approach:

🍺 A local craft brewery could focus on craft beer, local community, and food pairings

πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ A yoga instructor could focus on mental health, healthy eating habits, and the importance of sleep

βœ‚οΈ A local barbershop could focus on men’s lifestyle, mindset, and men’s fashion

These content pillars do not need to be permanent and can be changed as needed, however, having them makes the content creation process much easier. Once you have a content pillar, the next step is to create sub-topics, organize them into content ideas, and plan them out in your content calendar.

When you're releasing a new product, creating a fleet of content specific to that product is a great way to generate hype and get people excited. Common examples of this type of content can be found in the craft brewing industry, but it can be done well for any industry with new product launches.

Here's an example of a content piece that was created to promote an (incredibly delicious) espresso blend by our friends at Lost Aviator Coffee Co.

We had some fun making this one - playing off the name of the roast and the existing overall brand to create a short but shareable clip.

This trailer was especially fun to make because Lost Aviator Coffee Co. was already one of our favourite brands and will always be the creators behind some of our favourite coffee blends here in the office!
