📖: Seeking Spirit: A Vietnamese (Non)Buddhist Memoir by Linda Trinh, Guernica Editions. Trinh says she had everything she thought an immigrant woman should want, yet she felt empty. Our host Carrie interviews author Jules Delorme, who shares insights from his memoir, 'I Heard a Crow Before I Was Born.' The conversation delves into Jules' childhood experiences in a Mohawk community, the impact of family dynamics, the struggle with identity, and the journey of forgiveness. Jules reflects on the silence surrounding his family's history, the challenges of living with Asperger's, and the significant relationships that shaped his life. The discussion also touches on his experiences in the army, the complexities of racism, and the importance of finding light amidst darkness.

Renée Belliveau calls War among the Clouds a "well-researched and valuable" book in her wonderful review - thank you! We couldn't agree more.

Experiences come to life! War among the Clouds: New Brunswick Airmen in the Great War by J. Brent Wilson is new non-fiction reviewed by TMR contributor and author Renée Belliveau. Published by Goose Lane Editions.

📚”Aviation was still in its infancy at the outbreak of the First World War. The Wright brothers had made their first successful flight only a decade earlier in 1903, and few people had ever seen, let alone flown in, an airplane.”

Today's Featured in-store is 'Sarah Maloney's Pleasure Ground: A Feminist Take on the Natural World' by Laura Ritchie, seen with Seek & Bloom Creative Co. joyful holiday card! 💕🇨🇦📚🎄

"Sarah Maloney’s Pleasure Ground: A Feminist Take on the Natural World is the first major survey of contemporary sculptor and textile artist Sarah Maloney, RCA. Recognized for her representations of botanicals and the human body, Maloney uses media ranging from embroidery to bronze to challenge ideas of “women’s work,” craft, and artistic labour. Maloney looks at Western history and culture through a feminist lens, and the results are depictions of plants, bones, and organs that reference gender, pleasure, desire, and power.

Sarah Maloney’s Pleasure Ground showcases Maloney’s artwork from her thirty-year career, with the selection of work exemplifying her explorations of sexuality, reproductivity, economics, and colonial systems of representation. Accompanying a nationally touring exhibition opening first at Art Windsor-Essex before moving to the MSVU Art Gallery, Halifax, in the spring of 2024, Sarah Maloney’s Pleasure Ground features essays by exhibition co-curator Laura Ritchie, textile scholar and curator Sarah Quinton, and Art Gallery of Nova Scotia CEO Sarah Moore Fillmore, as well as 70 full-colour images of Maloney’s provocative and joyful work."
