JUNE'S ASTROLOGY by Gagan Mann

It’s Gemini season!

This mutable air sign is the connector of all sorts. Gemini is ruled by Mercury and heavily relies on gathered information. Gemini is smart, curious, intellectual, flexible and can be a jack of all trades and master of none.

Wherever Gemini lies (in an individual’s chart) is where the focus of Mercury is. This month let’s focus on Mercury and some of its aspects.

Mercury is a kind of traffic director influencing various movements within our bodies. The messenger of the gods, it is also the messenger of the nervous system, relaying split-second commands throughout the body. Here are a few key points about Mercury:

• Traits: Mental energy, active mind, rational mind, messenger, awareness, intelligence and young people.

• Governs: All forms of communications and miscommunications, and relating of information and perceptions.

• Duration: 88 days to one year to orbit Earth due to retrograde motion.

• Asks: “What do I analyze and what is practical?”

• Rules: Virgo and Gemini.

• Anatomy: Nervous system, brain sight, mouth, tongue, respiratory system, hands, arms and thyroid.

• Vitamin: Rules the Thiamine (vitamin B-1).

Mercury has been retrograding (moving slower than Earth) in Gemini and starts to move direct at 26 degrees of Ta**us on June 3. You may have experienced communications being very airy and fleeting. It should start to feel more promising in Ta**us after the first week of June...

MAY'S ASTROLOGY: Solar Eclipse - Sow New Seeds
by Gagan Mann

We are starting the month with New Moon energy in Ta**us with a solar eclipse.

Ta**us is a fixed earth sign, is Venus based and is the earth spirit. Ta**us people are the gardeners, the store owners, the tactile person, the musician and the silent one. Ta**us wants to acquire things of beauty and accumulate materials. This New Moon arrives in Ta**us on April 30.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. The exposure of the eclipse can cause damage in the retina.

When I was growing up in India, solar eclipses were a big deal. We were instructed to stay indoors and scolded for asking to play outside. I hated that I couldn’t be out to look at the sun and always wondered, “What was the big deal.” My grandparents would instruct me to pay attention to self and practice mindfulness. A five-year-old doesn’t fully fathom mindfulness but I did get the just of it (that I had to bring my attention inwards).

I remember how the day of the eclipse would feel very weird, almost like everything was coming to an end. The animals at the farm would be eerily quiet and no leaf would make a sound. This feeling would linger on for days for me resulting in night terrors and sometimes falling sick. Little did I know that I was being connected to my Sun/Moon energy and in later life (during one of my sun salutations) I came to finally thank the Sun God and appreciate my light.

Just for a moment imagine having no light, even if it is for a second. To totally obscure the warmth, the light, the prana and vitality is to feel the death experience. Death at any level is what pushes us to the next level of our human experience, making the solar eclipse a prime time for ascension. This doesn’t mean we are ascending into something outside ourselves but instead the soul experience is reaching to evolve further while staying in human form.

The effect of the eclipse lasts good six months, making the beginning of May an excellent time to sow some new seeds. What is it you are trying to ascend to?

HEALING WITH HORSES
by Horse Medicine Pathways

Horse Medicine Pathways (on Salt Spring Island, BC) offers experiential workshops bringing the natural gifts and sentience of horses together with people seeking to transcend life challenges and increase their feelings of well-being. At Horse Medicine Pathways, magic is always afoot!

Horses are wise, compassionate and powerful teachers. Over thousands of years, they have evolved to be incredibly intuitive and masters at feeling and interpreting energy. They might not use words, but they communicate volumes through their expressive body language! And their behavior mirrors that of our own, which often comes as quite a surprise. We might find ourselves wondering: "Am I really like that?" as we witness our horse partner behave in a way that we find less than positive.

Horses naturally bond and partner with humans. Highly sensitive to non-verbal communication and to human emotions, they reflect back what they receive from us, while holding a safe, non-judgmental space for mindfulness and healing.

For our equine friends, the only moment that matters is the present moment and they help us remember how to be grounded, yet alert, and how to shake off stress and come back to inner calm...

APRIL'S ASTROLOGY - Chiron & Your Hidden Potential
by Gagan Mann

Spring is here even though in our northern hemisphere it doesn’t feel like it is. Nevertheless, there is life under the earth waiting to spring its face to the sun at any moment now.

This month is all about sowing seeds of depth and self-healing. We start the month off with a new moon in Aries giving us an opportunity to put our best foot forward.

Chiron is strong in the month of April as it is shedding light on our identities. This month of Aries is special because of Chiron, offering us some moments of healing and awakenings. Aries (the cardinal fire sign) is all about: “Here I am world.” The true test is shattering the ego and understanding divinity.

Here’s a little information about Chiron and its significance in astrology…

Chiron is a small icy comet orbiting the Sun in the outer solar system. It orbits between Saturn and Uranus. Chiron was named after the Greek centaur (half human, half horse). Chiron is known as the wounded healer, the bridge between Saturn and Uranus and the path to liberation and the wise teacher.

When I first heard of Chiron and its potential to unlock our gifts, I thought Chiron should be the only entity studied in a chart. Little did I know that it takes years to get to that door. I am still learning about Chiron in my own natal chart and continue to learn about Chiron’s energy. My mentor and astrology teacher never put much attention on Chiron and I never really understood why until I started practicing astrology religiously…

One must learn to crawl before starting to walk. One must experience one Saturn return (around 28 years of age) before saying that they understand some inner workings of life. To uncover Chiron energy is to have some solid foundation of self and life. Only after we have been wounded a few times, and have learned to get up after every fall, can we truly get closer to unlocking our gifts...

MARCH'S ASTROLOGY by Gagan Mann

Spring is almost on the horizon and the month of Pisces should feel like a cool breeze on a blistering day.

As a collective we have been working with challenges both big and small. March should be somewhat of a relief with a little imagination and a lot of heart. It’s a month to dream our dreams and have faith in ourselves and humankind.

Pisces (the mutable water sign) is about oneness, faith, union, dreams, imagination, intuition and escapism. Pisces is ruled by Jupiter (traditional) and Neptune. Neptune (being the generational planet) shows us that, as a collective, we are experiencing all kinds of emotions that have accumulated over time and we have now been given the opportunity to change the world we live in. Piscean archetypes are the mystic, the dreamer, the poet and the face dancer.

This month we get to really swim in Piscean waters, with Jupiter and Neptune helping to navigate through hard places in ourselves and the world around us. Jupiter brings a little luck and Neptune brings the faith.

February 18 to March 19 - Sun in Pisces conjuncts Jupiter in Pisces. This creates a big spotlight on who and what you see yourself as in the world. Sensitivities can be at a high. Even though Jupiter brings auspiciousness and luck, it can also expand the shadow side of things. Be mindful of doing too much. You may investigate how to expand yourself through learning about all things that are mystical.

February 24 to March 5 - Sun sextiles Uranus in Ta**us. Opportunities for insights and creative change will present themselves for individuals and the collective.

March 2 - We have a new moon in Pisces. This moon is set in good fertile soil as it conjuncts the benefactor Jupiter. These are a good couple of days to start something which has immense potential to expand...

FEBRUARY'S ASTROLOGY by Gagan Mann

Happy Birthday Aquarians!

This fixed air sign brings in the imagination, the inventions, the unpredictable, and themes of individuality and breaking free from what we were taught. Traditionally ruled by Saturn and then Uranus, Aquarius seeks individuality and will not conform to peer pressure and social approval.

As we each seek our ultimate truth (individuality), we find ourselves bombarded with so much information and the unjust in the world. We are all in the process of learning to navigate and sift through the muck to get to our true self. But what is the true self?

I read something the other day (by Adrianne Tamar Arachne) and it really resonated. I will share the short version. “If my healing only keeps looping back to myself and doesn’t ultimately lead to reassociation with the Earth and my work to be part of it, then I am just a casualty of healing-themed consumerism.”

So, what have we learned? We must do things differently just like an Aquarius. We must think outside the box to create new ways to feel autonomy. Let the unlearning begin and open your way to new findings.

Granted there is so much to be done still, especially regarding global warming, but we are moving slowly but surely. What is the pandemic teaching us? Are we still consuming off the Earth in the same manner? Are we conscious of our actions? Are the riots/petitions worth fighting or is there another way to create union. Self-healing is important but the most import part of the whole puzzle is union and connectedness to all aspects of life. The planets are showing us where and how to proceed.

Themes of freedom and autonomy are obviously on the rise. Masses are gathering to break free and fight for personal rights. Most of January we were looking at relationships, self-worth and how we measure up.

February is about setting the seeds for freedom and unleashing the unconventional, provided we have set good foundations...

JANUARY'S ASTROLOGY by Gagan Mann

Happy New Year!

Regardless of our zodiac sign, we are all coming into the new year feeling very exhausted. However, the new year month of January presents you with milder challenges and opportunities to take a step back from your usual self and invite some newness.

IT’S ALL ABOUT VENUS

At the beginning of January for two weeks, the Sun conjuncts Venus. The Sun is shining its bright light on what’s taking place and a forecast of upcoming issues that need attention. Take some time to understand what is occurring. Some questions to explore might be:
• What are some of my core beliefs?
• Am I in alignment with my beliefs?
• How genuine/authentic do I feel in my relationships?

Venus retrograded on December 19 at 26 degrees of Capricorn and will go down to 11 degrees of Capricorn before moving direct again on January 29.

Usually, Venus transits are very quick, but January gives us an extra-long period of working with its energy. As Robert Hand says in his book of Transits (Schiffer Publishing, 2001), “Venus rules the spontaneous power of attraction between two entities that differ in such a way that together they form a higher and more complex whole than would otherwise be possible.”

Venus will be retrograding for 40 days. Forty is a sacred number in many religions; precisely the days one needs to break free and create new ways of being.

In retrospect, what have you been attracting since November? Is it congruent to your inner and outer life? When Venus is in Capricorn, it is practical, responsible, conventional, serious, cautious and sets congruent goals. The shadow side of this type of energy is loneliness, status seeking, brooding and can be seduced by power.

Venus also conjuncts Pluto until mid-January lending to...

DECEMBER'S ASTROLOGY
by Gagan Mann

Happy birthday to all the Sagittarius out there! This mutable fire sign is ruled by the planet Jupiter and simply means that themes of fun, optimism, expansiveness, growth, faith and learning is in the cards. Traditionally it was known as the “Greater Benefic” (meaning nothing but good comes your way) but we all know how life can go.

In the month of December let’s look at how the planets are helping all of us grow and expand.

When we talk about growth and expansion, we can’t surpass the nodal axis. Currently, we have a north node in Sagittarius and a south node in Gemini. The north node is where the point of growth and new skills is, and the south node is our past learnings, a place of comfort and past experiences.

This Sagittarius Gemini axis looks at themes around learning by going from place to place, changing and shifting colors like a chameleon, and finally coming to place to find deeper understanding of the purpose for living.

Martin Schulman wrote in his book Karmic Astrology (Red Wheel/Weiser, 1984) that the Moon’s nodes and reincarnation that people with the north node in Gemini are often introduced to their spiritual purpose by an enlightened older individual from a foreign land. Jupiter’s rulership of Sagittarius shows us how we must step outside our family of origin to find ourselves and go on our own spiritual quest. The Sun (being in Sagittarius) brings attention to themes around growth and finding purpose.

The Sun opposes the north node and conjuncts the south node until December 3. We must trust our intuition and work on the mind chatter that goes on in the double brain (Gemini). We must make space to listen to our higher mind via mindfulness, meditations, etc. Our sense of self has a chance to solidify itself by tapping into learnings from past experiences and events. This is a great opportunity to expand your emotional IQ...

How C-60 Healed Me
by Jen Tyler

“If you don’t make time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness.”

I was inspired by this simple yet powerful statement that I came across almost two years ago because I found it to be true about my own journey in healing from both arthritis and fibromyalgia.

Having been plagued with these two ailments for over eight years, I spent oodles of money on chiropractors, acupunctures, deep tissue massages and anti-inflammatories, just to get by, day to day. Although all of these treatments served as helping agents and offered relief, when paused, the chronic aching, soreness and tenderness inevitably returned to me.

Delving deeper into my wellness and believing the body has the means to heal itself and return to balance, I wanted to get at the root cause of what was happening inside of me.

It was around this same time I found the powerful, wonder cleaning detox agent of C-60 and what it can do (as a massive free radical consumer) inside our body. It works similar to Pacman. In the video game, Pacman gobbles up all the pellets, just as C-60 does with free radicals inside our body and then it flushes them out through our waste system. Oxidative stress (an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in our body), impure water, pesticides, herbicides and polluted air, coupled with lack of exercise, smoking or drinking or being slightly to moderately overweight, are all contributing factors.

As an apple browns when exposed to the air, our bodies also suffer from oxidation and accelerated aging. Even the most avid athletes, and regular walkers/joggers, still incur oxidative stress and free radical imbalances. Oxidative stress leads to cell and tissue damage. Long term oxidative stress turns into chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, macular degeneration, compromised gut health affecting digestion, increase of allergies, gluten sensitivity/celiac., inflamed nerves, muscle/joint pain, brain fog, memory, focus and concentration issues, hair loss and greying… and the list goes on. Our cells produce antioxidants that are supposed to neutralize free radicals yet strong influencers of diet, alcohol, smoking, radiation and environmental factors amplify this imbalance.

When I discovered that C-60 is 170 times more powerful than the antioxidant capacity of Vitamin C and the fact it can protect nerves, improve longevity, kill viruses and bacteria, heal UV damage to the skin, I thought there is something to this...

ASTROLOGY: NOVEMBER 2021
by Gagan Mann

On OCTOBER 22 the sun shifted into the constellation of Scorpio, a receptive fixed water sign. This intense sign is all about transformation, destruction and regeneration. November is full of intensity and opportunities to shed light on secrets and shadows. Be mindful of your words and take the time to shake and move rigid energy. Fixed signs like Ta**us, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius might have a tough time shifting gears as cycles are demanding the shedding of old skin.

Almost always a war is raging within a scorpion. Scorpions are great miners of uncovering the subconscious. This job isn’t for the lighthearted; it takes great strength and courage to uncover all the ugly parts of one’s self. Scorpions may love control and intensity but desperately need an outlet for huge amounts of strong energy. Mars and Pluto, being Scorpio’s rulers, make this sign the most intense, obsessive, possessive, determined, inflexible and enduring signs of the zodiac. Scorpions can be the most passionate people if they balance their intensity with a good outlet. A Scorpio is always learning that expulsion of energy must take place, or an implosion will happen. A chthonic (underworld) clampdown may take place if repression was the coping mechanism. Out of the whole zodiac, Scorpio has immense power to merge the higher self to the lower.

We kick off Scorpio season by Mercury leaving retrograde and moving direct on OCTOBER 18.

Mercury is in Libra until NOVEMBER 5, highlighting relationships, technology, teachers and all communications. The retrograde offered us a last chance at solving any issues around partnerships, contracts and proofreading any fine details. This was the last of the yearly retrogrades for Mercury. Still be cautious when taking on new contracts and signing deals until Mercury gains momentum, well into past Halloween.

HIGHLIGHTS:

OCTOBER 18, Jupiter moves direct in Aquarius. There is optimism around the collective and “moving forward” regardless of limitations around the pandemic. Our dreams and wishes do not seem so far out of reach.

OCTOBER 24, onwards into the month of November, Mars squares Pluto. This type of aspect can bring challenges around blocks which hinder self-growth. Fierce power struggles may take place in a group setting. Even though your energy might be at all time high, unfortunately you may be opposed with even greater high-strung people. Like any other cycle, the idea is to work with what is trying to take place and put your energy towards creating clarity.

NOVEMBER 2 – NOVEMBER 30, Mars in Scorpio opposes Uranus in Ta**us. The basic tone here is sudden and impulsive behavior, a stressful aspect which can show up as restlessness and irritability. Use this energy to go with the flow and choose the least resistance path...

OCTOBER'S ASTROLOGY by Gagan Mann

The cooler air and the falling leaves are showing us to once again let go of what doesn’t serve us.

One evening my daughter and I were walking, and it was cold and windy. As we walked, I said: “The winds help the trees shed their leaves.” Later that night she shared with me how amazed she was with what I said. She told me that it really blew her away because she realized that the elements are a huge part of the grand design.

In the MONTH OF OCTOBER, we move through the cardinal air of Libra and furthermore, our communications will have the cardinal air element as well. Mercury retrogrades and stays in the sign of Libra all through October. This cardinal activity is looking for dynamic action in relationships. Whether initiating or motivating action, the energy is seeking movement.

All air signs (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) may feel like moving forward quickly and taking action. A well balanced air element is inspiring, refreshing, social and cooperative but an imbalanced air can be foggy, nervous and scattered. It’s important to check in and see how clear one feels before proceeding with conversation or projects. Some ways to use this energy is to write or journal your thoughts and ideas. Once something is in black and white, it may shift your perspective.

The zodiac sign of Libra looks for balance and harmony everywhere. The challenge is inner balance/harmony versus outer balance/harmony. Libras tend to see everything through reflection. The Libra world is created through connection and relation with the world.

HARMONY EXERCISE:
A good exercise for this month might be take some time for yourself and explore what harmony looks like in our relationships.

SEPTEMBER'S ASTROLOGY: Welcoming the Equinox & Libra
by Gagan Mann

The outcomes and possibilities in any event are immense and therefore astrology can come as a gift or a shadow.

Gift, because it shows us how we can work with different planetary energies and how to unkink patterns that have walked for generations. Shadow, because using it like a prediction can limit us. It can hinder healing just because most of us like quick fixes.

Mercury moves around the Sun at exponential speed; so do our thoughts. It takes a second to think of a peaceful world, but it takes much longer to have it come to reality. This month highlights all our relationships. So much is being mirrored back to us and some stuff is ugly. It’s time to do our homework!

Uranus in Ta**us retrograded on Sunday, AUGUST 22 and will stay in retrograde motion until Monday, JANUARY 10, 2022. Opportunities and possibilities for thinking outside the box, lightning insights and unexpected discoveries are all part of how Uranian energy takes place. The planet Uranus is a massive energy and being the octave of the planet Saturn, it decides for you and gives you no time to think because it is sudden and unexpected.

Uranus energy is also about what is good for humanity, the groups and organizations we associate ourselves with. Look into what role you play and does it align with your core values?

SEPTEMBER brings more of the flavor of change, insights and relationships. Leaving the month of August (with the full moon in Aquarius on August 22) helped shed light on groups and organizations that no longer serve us. Change can bring discomfort and that kick starts anxiousness. Working with breathing techniques and grounding exercises can help ease discomfort and anxiousness.

This type of energy can be felt all through Fall 2021 and bleeding into Winter 2021 when the planet Uranus starts its retrograde motion (August 22 until January 10, 2022). Anytime we have a retrograde, “Stop, Pause, Reflect” should be the mantra...

SPIRIT: How to Choose Joy
by Connie Brisson

Joy is a choice.

Years ago at my friend’s garage sale in Bonnyville, I ran into a woman who I had grown up with (as a child) on a nearby farm. We talked a bit about our lives and she told me she had twin boys. I had Gabbey by then and I commented on how difficult it must be to take care of two babies at once (and she had another child too). And what she said to me has never left me…

She said that every time her life was difficult with them, she would tell herself that: “This too will pass” and it always did. It was a lightbulb moment for me because I realized (as she was saying this) that when things were difficult for me, I did the opposite. I would get so scared that I couldn’t endure this “something sh*tty” forever and my mantra (unconsciously unbeknownst to me) was: “I can’t live like this.” My mantra created a lot of fear in me, while her mantra was like a nurturing friend. It was an “aha” moment for me to awaken to the power of my words and how limiting they could be. It made me aware that I could consciously flip/choose a way to see anything defeating differently.

Is the glass half empty or half full? It’s your decision. It’s your choice.

Our words and thoughts are so powerful. What we tell ourselves can either elevate our spirits or send us into deep despair. If we aren’t conscious of our inner programming and how our words steer/captain the boats of our lives, we can get lost in the rogue waves of our thoughts.

One of the books that really helped me to be conscious of my words and their affect on me (and others) is The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein (Hay House, 2016). It was so powerful for me that I actually...

AN ESPECIALLY FORTUNATE FULL MOON - by Elaine Jessica

The planet Uranus will be going retrograde later this week adding to the potency of all that it means to revisit and recapitulate the recent past. Think of it as the Universe wanting us to check and double check what we value… like our planet for example. We are in a planetary crisis and no matter how we look at it, it is being pointed out to us and the offering is for us to take care of it and our fellow beings.

Our personal planets (the smaller ones) continue making alignments with the very still (retrograding) outer planets (which affect us globally and generationally). All planetary movements create personal dynamics within our own charts over and above the alignments written about in the general scheme of things. It’s why we all feel different things at different times. We are on our own unique path in addition to the experiences of a global level.

Monday, AUGUST 16, we have a Yod in the Cosmos that remains in place through Tuesday, AUGUST 17, representing something we want, but there’s resistance that we must overcome in order to achieve it...

Sunday, AUGUST 22, we have a Full Moon in Aquarius. Jupiter is holding hands with the Moon bringing its lucky charm with it. This is an especially fortunate Full Moon. Set the intention and it will be so!

TRAVEL: Florence’s Bronze Pig Fountain
by Connie Brisson

While it’s a common tradition to rub the belly of a laughing buddha for good luck, in FLORENCE, ITALY, the object of affection is a bronze boar.

Il Porcellion or the Bronze Pig Fountain is located in the Loggia del Mercato Nuovo, near Ponte Vecchio. Although in Italian it means “the little pig,” the statue is really of a wild boar.

The boar statue was sculpted and cast by Baroque master Pietro Tacca (1577–1640) after a marble original that Pope Pius IV donated to the Medici family in the 1560s. A few years later Ferdinand II de ‘Medici decided to turn it into a fountain and he placed it in the Loggia of the New Market. The fountain’s function was both practical and decorative as it provided water to merchants who traded there (specializing in the sale of luxury fabrics such as silks, brocades, and wool cloths).

The present statue is a modern copy by Ferdinando Marinelli Artistic Foundry (cast in 1998) and...

SPIRIT: DEALING WITH GRIEF
by Connie Brisson

Good grief… Is there such a thing?

Many of us have experienced loss (of varying natures) during these last few years due to the pandemic, or maybe more accurately, our losses were amplified by the pandemic. All of our lives were changed in both big and small ways whether it was losing jobs, friendships, routines, health and especially the deaths of loved ones.

Elizabeth Kubler-Ross famously identified the five stages of death in her book On Death and Dying and later (with co-author David Kessler) in On Grief and Grieving, they identified similar stages for grief. The five stages of grief are:

1. Denial: Shock and disbelief that the loss has occurred.
2. Anger: That someone we love is no longer here.
3. Bargaining: All the what-ifs and regrets.
4. Depression: Sadness from the loss.
5. Acceptance: Acknowledging the reality of the loss.

In Finding Meaning, The Sixth Stage of Grief (Scribner, 2019), also by David Kessler, he relays two different stories that impacted me and I really want to share them with you…
