⚡️OUT NOW⚡️DFL

Get stoked! Three rad dads join us for this episode: Monty Messex, “Crazy Tom” Davis, and Pat Sullivan from LA hardcore legends Dead Fu***ng Last! Proud to be D.A.D. 🤘

Monty and Tom have older kids - in fact, Monty is a rad granddad! - but all three agreed that they wouldn’t trade it for anything. While fatherhood is tough, you get so much back from your kids. They also talked about their parenting styles and balancing their punk rock, anti-authoritarian ethos with the need to set boundaries for your kids. They all shared stories of the pride they take in watching their kids grow up and become independent. And in a neat twist on the topic of fatherhood, they discussed how Monty is the “band dad” and Pat and Tom expressed their gratitude for all he does to keep things in the band moving.

Of course Kristian and the guys discussed DFL’s recent reissue of their legendary first album, My Crazy Life on . This hardcore gem featured The Beastie Boys’ Adam Horovitz and was originally released on the Beasties’ label Grand Royal 🎲🃏 more than 30 years ago. And Monty shared that the band has another record in the can in which they’ve collaborated with Eddie from Voodoo Glow Skulls, from Pennywise, and more.

⚡️OUT NOW⚡️Josh Hager (DEVO, Garvy J)

Josh may still be referred to as “the new guy” in DEVO but that’s a bit of a misnomer, as he recently celebrated 10 years with the band. In addition to his work battling de-evolution, he is an accomplished musician and producer who has played with The Elevator Drops, The Rentals, It’s No Game, Garvy J (his solo project), and ShadowParty.

Josh is also a dad to Chloe and Luke, and he stopped by The Rad Dads Show to sit down with Brett and chat about what it means to be a rad dad. They cover:
📌Fighting the urge to “conform” to suburban life
📌Looking at the world through a musician’s lens
📌Navigating divorce and coparenting
📌The importance of being a rock for your kids
📌Providing support to the other DEVO dads
📌New Garvy J material
📌…and more!

⚡️OUT NOW - Tony Lovato (MEST)⚡️

formed in 1995 and, almost 30 years later, are still going strong. They just released their 9th studio album - YOUTH - which includes instant fan favourites Hate You Sober feat. from and When We Were Young feat. rad dad from 🤘 We’re stoked that frontman Tony Lovato stopped by Rad Dads HQ to chat about how he builds and maintains momentum with the band, while staying a rad dad at home to his 5 kids.

Tony and Brett get into:
■ The band as a “family business”
■ On-stage gender reveals
■ The 90s fashion comeback
■ Finding lost kids at Disneyland
■ Getting parenting advice from his dad
■ The new record and upcoming tours
■ …and more

We also learn that you can never quite escape the kids, as Tony’s 2-year-old daughter, Rebel, crashes the interview for a bit - and her baby brother, Clash, makes an appearance as well. Par for the course for The Rad Dads Show! We love it. ♥️

⚡️JIM LINDBERG RETURNS⚡️

That’s right, the OG punk rock dad of fame returns to The Rad Dads Show to share more sage dad wisdom as he enters the “empty nest” phase of parenting. Kristian and Jim talk about the threat of artificial intelligence, sociopathic leaders, and paranoia - all themes that creep their way into his latest record with side project “Here Comes Our Wave”, out now on ! Jim also discusses the challenge of addressing those difficult topics with kids.
⚡️
Jim gets in the driver’s seat on this record, and in addition to songs like “I Think I’m Paranoid” and “Here We Come” which explore those themes, he also sneaks in some more personal songs, including songs like “Float Away” and “Won’t Let You Down” that are written for his wife. It’s definitely not Pennywise, but it’s 100% Jim and any fans of Pennywise - or the previous Black Pacific record - will love this one.
⚡️
Check out this interview (and Jim’s previous visit to Rad Dads HQ!) wherever you get your podcasts, or watch it on YouTube. And go pick up Here Comes Our Wave today!

Special thanks to Mike 🤘

Bryan is one half of Koo Koo, stylish purveyors of unforgettable dance hits that get kids and parents moving and grooving together. If you know, you know.

Bryan has also been a longtime supporter of Rad Dads, appeared on an early episode of the podcast, and was a contributor to our PUNK IS DAD colouring book! Look at those adorable monsters.

Thanks, Bryan, for being rad!

BRIAN WALSBY
◼️▪️◼️▪️◼️
Brian is one of my favourite artists and several of his works are hanging on the walls of Rad Dads HQ right now. He was on the podcast over 3 years ago and we bonded over not just fatherhood, but also a mutual love of the band ALL.

So it’s very fitting that when I reached out to Brian about participating in this book, he responded literally minutes later with this incredible ALL illustration highlighting the band and each of its 3 singers over the years. It is my complete honour and privilege to have it as part of the Punk Is Dad colouring book.

Thanks for being rad, Brian!

STEVE CABALLERO & MARK deSALVO
◼️▪️◼️▪️◼️
Without these two rad dads, our Punk Is Dad colouring book would have never seen the light of day! These guys probably need no introduction but Steve is of course a pro skater for and a guitarist for , and Mark is a punk rock artist responsible for some of the most iconic punk album covers of all time - think Heavy Petting Zoo and Let’s Talk About Feelings.
◼️▪️◼️▪️◼️
These two get together every Tuesday night at Cab’s house for Art Night 🎨, along with some other pals. When we asked them if they wanted to be part of our colouring book, they jumped at the opportunity and promptly submitted these amazing contributions! It’s surreal to have these exclusive pieces as part of this book, from Cab’s classic dragon, to Mark’s pieces inspired by his kids: his daughter Bluma is a Pez 🍬 fanatic while his son Wiley goes nuts for Hot Wheels 🚗. So sweet!

Thanks again Steve and Mark for being rad!

Bringing music to kids is something Rad Dads has always been passionate about, which is why we have so much appreciation for what does. They make music lessons ⚡️fun⚡️ for kids and inspire a lifelong love of art and creativity in their students. Fun fact: They also hosted one of our first ALL AGER RAGERS! 🤘 🎸 🤘

We’d like to thank Nella, Dan, and the rest of the Backbeat team for their support of our Punk Is Dad colouring book! Pictured here are Brett’s kids with their piano and drum teachers, Jesse and Ryan, and Brett with his buddy, Bob Ross 🎨
