Happy Monday! All of us here at Big E Radio encourage you to celebrate World Kindness Day by engaging in one simple act of kindness today!

Feel free to share in the comments below, Big E Friends and Family, some examples of ways you can show kindness.

Remember that even simple gestures, such as complimenting someone, holding the door for a stranger, or helping a neighbor, can be part of a ripple effect that makes us all feel the love.

Have a great Monday!!

Good morning, and happy Sunday, Big E friends and family! We have just what you need to start your day out right. Be sure to tune in for this!

11am - Fuse n Flow

Today's 90-min jazz hour is heavy on dedications to some wonderful people who make Edmonton's Yardbird Suite run so smoothly, as well as online friends I have at the notorious fark.com website. Special bonus - I close the show with quite literally one of the worst tracks in recorded music history. Featured artists include Yazz Ahmed, Andrew Glover, P*e Wee Ellis, Dan Sinasac, Dianne Reeves, The Modern Jazz Quartet and many more

1pm - Whose Show is it Anyway?

"What a show! My hope was to offer up a diverse mix of music with personal stories so you can get to know me.
You can find me on FB (Artist Leah Wilson) lets share the love for music & art.
Favorite quote " A writer writes, a cook cooks, and an artists makes art".
Collaborative radio is my jam, exposing story, music, and personality in a genuine way that connects to people, connects people, is much like how I see art. And it is a distinct pleasure to share both with you today.
On this playlist you will hear epic drum solos, the fantastic call of the horns, powerful voices & moving beats to dance those feet. Thank you Big E Radio, & gratitude in abundance for you, the listener, for joining in the journey.
Lets dance again sometime,"
Artist Leah Wilson

I don't drink anymore, but I don't begrudge anyone who does. Despite my sobriety, I do love a good drinking song. Some of them are simply brilliant. Hopefully we hit on a couple brilliant ones this week on INAIGIWIG. All songs about drinks!

If it ain't Baroque - don't fix it!
Had a request for the theme "Baroque" for this week, and Canadian musicians know how to do that well! In fact we center a bit on Ontario and Quebec for some music by Baroque specialists. As always there is some local content to celebrate our own!

09/12/2023

Having a bad week? Need to decompress, de-stress and reload?? Yours truly has got you covered, on tonight's Living In Tune! I'm taking a page out of Rev K's show Noise Factor, and adding in a few sets that are a little heavier, and little more devilish. 09/07/2023

Happy Humpday, Big E friends and family! Be sure to join us tonight for an evening packed with great tunes!

8pm - Both Sides Now

Blues rock doesn’t really begin to describe Tedeschi Trucks Band. You can also attribute elements of jazz, soul, funk, gospel, r&b, southern rock and a variety of world music influences including Qawwali music from India/Pakistan, afro-beat and latin music. In 2011, they released their first album “REVELATOR”, and promptly won the Grammy Award for Best Blues album, beating out Greg Allman and Keb’ Mo...

9pm - Who Gave Rev K

Rev.K is working the night shift at the station. Normally that means tidying up, making sure the music stays on, and critiquing Careless Whisper covers. Tonight however, Rev.K has other plans and instead of doing what he's supposed to be doing he is cranking up the dirty, crusty, resin-rich stoner rock that he loves so much. It's an hour of job-killing fun, listen in and make it worth it

09/06/2023

It's Tuesday TUNESDAY, Big E friends and family...and that means we have a whole lot of great programming in store for you tonight. Be sure to join us for this...

Join us as Sir Talks A Lot explores interesting interpretations of tunes

8pm - Two Dudes in a Tune Mood

Sooooooo, we've got more alter egos this week. The world of music is full of pseudonyms, characters, and personalities and so it only makes sense that we continue on this wave for a little while longer. This week we're looking at David Bowie, The Hanson Brothers, Beyonce, Chris Gaines, and more! So put on your superhero masks and come along for the ride!

9pm - INAIGIWIG

My wife and I recently saw our daughter off to The Toronto Municipal University to join the dance program there. It's a pretty big deal for all concerned, so this week on INAIGIWIG I'm commemorating this momentous change to the spirit of dancing. I'm calling it Mike McDonald's Crazy Dance Party, but it's more like if a bunch of people sat around and thought about dancing...

8:30pm - Noise Factor

Season 5 is here and your host is kicking it off big time! Prieur & Landry get us started and from there it's a jam-packed episode of some top notch, resin-rich, dank-ass riffs. From South Africa, Acid Magus is going to blow you away and on the home front from Canada we've got some Chrongoblin and Haxan. Still not convinced? How about Droids Attack, Gamma Goat, Oreyeon, Brain Police, Wo Fat and more

10pm - Electropia

Venturing into the UNKNOWN! - That's right! it's a new season of Electropia, and we're going to kick it off by venturing into the UNKNOWN! What does that mean? What IS the "unknown"? Well, it might get me in trouble, or earn me praise. One doesn't know until the venture is made! It's a big risk and PROBABLY ILLEGAL! In this episode, we'll hear songs of MYSTERIOUS ORIGIN. These tracks will have NO ARTIST NAMES to give credit to! I have NO MEMORY of where these tracks came from! There are ONLY VAGUE SONG TITLES, and even then they are PROBABLY INACCURATE to the final product! THIS MAY BE THE ONLY PLACE YOU'LL HEAR THESE TRACKS!

09/02/2023

It's finally Friday, friends! Be sure to tune into Edmonton's own Big E Radio tonight for a great start to the long weekend!

Featuring: Ten Second Epic, The Wet Secrets, Melody McArthur, The Dice Cubes, Utopian Skank, Souljah Fyah, Free The Cynics, Tupelo Honey, and more

9:30pm - Basement DJ

Tonight’s mix is has one thing in common: synth goodness. It traverses genres and decades. AD/DC, Billie Eilish, Nirvana, Two Feet, Kiss, Scorpions, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Richard Marx, Camelphat, Canada's very own - Parachute Club, Meduza, Donna Summer, Wheezer, Timbaland, La Roux, and many more… Enjoy. I’m the basement DJ and it’s all about the music

6pm - Wild Rose Jazz

Two hours of ALL ALBERTA Jazz artists, curated by our very own Todd Crawshaw

8pm - Both Sides Now

By 1956, Duke Ellington, America’s greatest composer, was seemingly, past his heyday. When he stepped onto the stage of the Newport Jazz Festival on that summer day in Rhode Island in 1965, nobody was expecting it to turn out to be such a momentous event in the career of a man who’d already achieved unimaginable heights. DUKE ELLINGTON AT NEWPORT helped re-ignite Ellington's career and in 2022 was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry for being culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant.

9pm - YEG Jazz

Don't miss out on an hour of talented YEG Jazz musicians, put together just for you by TJM!

Bruce Wayne and Batman, Clark Kent and Superman, Barry Allen and The Flash, today we're talking about alter egos, but not of the superhero variety, we're talking about the musical variety (obviously, that's the show). Bands and artists that adopt not only a pseudonym but an alternate personality or sound. We've got selections from The Beatles, Prozzak, Gwar, The Dukes of The Stratosphere, and more!

9pm - INAIGIWIG

Welcome to Season 5, Episode 1! Since I have new numbers in my head, I thought I'd do another show with number songs. As you can imagine, there's a fairly large number of them....see what I did there?

08/27/2023

Happy Sunday, Big E friends and family! Be sure to join us this morning for a whole lot of great music to start out your day!

11am - Fuse n Flow

I'm spinning some vintage and contemporary tunes - mostly jazz with a smattering of soul. The contemporary side is represented by the likes of Stephanie French, Jonathan Karrant and Endea Owens; the vintage includes a power trio of Davis/Coltrane/Getz, Buddy Rich and Bill Frisell. And I let loose a swear word - I blame the neo citran. It's on the lighter end of the curse continuum, but still, Sunday jazz guys should be far effing classier than that

1pm - Our Next Guest Definitely Needs an Introduction - Craig H Special

I sat down with Phil Scott, and talked creativity, and we played 16 of my own songs, featuring 4 off upcoming album FEARS in their debuts. It's the most I've ever talked about my own creative process, and now, in atonement, will not be speaking aloud for 3 weeks

Freshly back from vacation, Rev.K has musical treasures to share. Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR brand new tracks from albums released in the last two weeks including Sevendust, La Chinga, Thunder Horse, and an absolutely incredible cover song from High Priest that is going to blow you away. In typical Rev.K fashion, restraint is never on the menu and tonight is no exception with a marathon set including Damageplan, Dead Kennedys, Slayer, and more. Next week is episode #100 of Noise Factor and I want you, YES YOU, to pick the setlist, so listen in on how you can get your requests to me to celebrate 100 episodes on Big E Radio. AIR SUPPLY FORBIDDEN!

Hello friends, and welcome to Saturday night at the Big E! Tune in tonight and a have a great time with these shows!

8:30pm - Noise Factor

Tonight starts on a very light-hearted and nostalgic note with Joe Satriani's 'Summer Song' and then it all takes a quick turn to the dark, noisy, murky, and doomy. Serious noise from Tongue Party, Power Trip, Mindforce, and more. Later on the forecast calls for a 100% chance of doom with a classic track from doom metal masters Candlemass and then track of the week from German sludgelords Bees Made Honey in the Vein Tree. New tracks from Carbellion and Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean and a hardcore sendoff to this week. It is all over the map. Like usual

10pm - Electropia

Random Select: Summer Series #2: More randomly selected random selections! Enjoy the eclectic mix!

07/13/2023

Hello friends, and welcome to Wednesday night here at Edmonton's own Big E Radio! Haven't tuned in yet?? Here's the perfect reason to start...

8pm - Both Sides Now

In 1995, 2 years after the death of FRANK ZAPPA, the Rykodisc record label issued STRICTLY COMMERCIAL, a collection of some of Zappa’s most recognized works. It’s not really a “Greatest Hits” collection in the classic sense of the word, because Zappa was never particularly interested in chasing the hits. But it’s a really great collection that includes songs taken from albums like Joe’s Garage, Sheik Yerbouti, Apostrophe and Hot Rats...

07/10/2023

Welcome to Sunday night at the Big E, friends! Here's what we have on deck for you tonight!

7:30pm - Are Metalheads Electric?

The journey continues with Slift, Tweak Bird, Sons of Otis, Farseer, Gone Cosmic, (more) Polymoon, and the closing track that is almost too epic to be believed from Astrosoniq. Open your mind, get ready for the ride, it's going to be memorable.

10p, - Electropia

Random Select: Summer Series - Because "eclectic" is in my tagline, and thinking up themes every week is a bit of a task! Enjoy randomness in music and musings! I make bad jokes and observations, but hopefully it balances out with good music selections!
