**Beating the heat at the North Sask.**
Just a 10 minute drive west of Drayton Valley is the Willey West campground and boat launch. From what I can tell no one knows how the Willey West Campground got its name, there is no mention of it in the local history books and there is also some debate among locals on how to pronounce the name.

**Town Council Briefs**

-- Homeless numbers fall --
There are currently an estimated 69 people living completely unsheltered in Drayton Valley. According to a report to council from the Town’s community services department, that number is lower than it was earlier this year. At least 15 people have not returned to the community since the evacuation in early May due to the Buck Creek Fire....

***New school moving forward***
"...Volkman told parents that students from H.W. Pickup and the Drayton Christian School could be in the new facility as early as Christmas, though the date isn’t written in stone.

“They don’t ever really give us a firm date,” says Volkman. Weather conditions or supply issues could still possibly cause delays, but they are hoping to move the schools over on Christmas break if possible.'"

**Woman watches as business burns**

So far it looks like the vast majority of area residents have escaped the wildfires without suffering serious property damage. Sadly that’s not true of everyone. It’s been confirmed that four homes were destroyed on the fringes of Drayton Valley. Further north, Pembina River Tubing was completely destroyed by the fire in Parkland County.

**Thunder here to stay**
It looks like there will be Alberta Junior Hockey League action in Drayton Valley for the foreseeable future. The Drayton Valley Thunder has come to a multi-year agreement with the Town regarding use of the Omniplex.
