A Cold Icey Day on the Pitt River
A few days ago we had the opportunity to shoot some icy shots 🥶🎥 off the Pitt River in Coquitlam. Brought an older Cannon macro lens out to see how it looked on ice crystal formations. Overall, I was really impressed by how many details there were while maintaining 5-6ft of space. Should we try snow next?
Winter Wonderland - Zhiyun Smooth 5S
Took the new Zhiyun Smooth 5S smartphone gimbal out for a walk near our house. Paired with an iPhone 11 + as my camera of choice. Overall the footage was super smooth and absolutely no post-stabilization was added to the footage. The only issue I had was not shooting in manual mode with ND filters to control the shutter speed (180 rule). Moment has some iPhone filters that would be deadly with this combo. Other than that for run and gun, it's a really fun combo for filmmakers.

Mundy & Minnekhada Parks - Test Shots with the Sigma 17-50mm & BMPCC4K
We've upgraded our cameras to the Blackmagic Pocket 4k. The Sigma 17-50mm intrigued me because it has cine-like lens qualities. Here are my findings with this lens so far.
First you'll need a speed booster, I'm using the Viltrox ef-m2 as it's budget-friendly and has a pretty good reputation. Overall it works great, I just had to fix infinity focus by spinning the inner diaphragm but it's easy to do.
The lens has hard stops which is great as you can set your A/B points easily. When using a Tilta Nucleus-Nano Wireless Focus Control System select calibrate and it'll map your focus points correctly. Compared to lenses that use infinity focus which just spins and spins. With the Tilta Nano the focus throw is long, if you manually rack it's quick. It seems Tilta has designed a way to make the throw ratio long which is great for racking in and out. Big surprise there.
The lens is budget-friendly, I got mine used in Japan for about $300USD and it was rated A grade. By the way, this lens has been discontinued, get it while you can.
The only drawback I've noticed is there is some vignetting which is quite obvious in brighter shots. In my video, you'll notice it with the dog shots. If you're adding a Polar Pro-Matte Box it adds more weight to the front end of your lens which makes zooming in and out a little less fluid, use lens support to stop any vibrations. The extra weight is noticeable since this lens doesn't have internal zoom parts.
Other than that I love how this lens goes wide but punches in when needed. For me, this is a dream as I've been using PRIME lenses which make for many lens changes in day-long shoots. Overall, I'm going to keep using this lens and would definitely recommend adding it to your bag if you're on a budget.
Our Busy Front Yard
Our Busy Front Yard - The new house has this amazing little front yard full of birds and cats. We installed 2 bird feeders and were surprised to see hummingbirds show up! Of course those Stellerjay's are kinda cool as they create lots of noise with their contstant squawking.
Overall this was shot with an old vintage Minolta 70-200mm lens with an adapter to a Black Magic Pocket 4k. I do admit some of the shots are soft and slightly out of focus. Nature shots are exremely hard to catch in perfect focus as they move so quickly. Overall we'll keep trying to get the perfect shot as this front yard is a golden paradise for this videographer.
Cycling Over the Shimanami Kaido - Local Japanese Tour
Over the fall we had a super fun time filming and editing this cycling Shimanami video for the local Ehime Government along with IGLOOO Japan. We got to experience a wide range of fun activities while using rental bikes.
Places we visited were local strawberry picking farms, fishing tours, lemon picking farms and even Yoga on the beach. Overall it was a really amazing chain of islands that should be seen to be believed.

The 4 Seasons of Nagoya - Discovering Samurai and Craftsmanships - 4K Highlights
For the past 6 months we've been busy filming the region of Nagoya Japan which covered a range of 4 seasons. We were able to document incredible tradesmen to manufacturers who produce some of Japan's most quintessential foods.
Some of the top highlights were exploring the infamous Nagakasendo trail which dates back to the Samurai era where there were no roads, just iconic trails. This was truly an expedition to cover it all, we hope you enjoy this journey and thanks so much for watching.

CSA - 3rd Annual Presentation Fukuoka Event
Our recent project with CSA and their big Presentation is finally finished. The first part of the video was a fun take on how Andy falls asleep and has a nightmare of a boring speech then wakes up to an epiphany of hope. It's was a neat way to bridge the monologue of the event. Overall we’re glad how it turned out and big thanks to CSA for trusting us with your project.

Mountain Biking Burnaby Mountain - GoPro Hero 7
My nephew Jamyson Paquin is turning into quite the mountain biker in Vancouver and asked if I could look at his footage. We fixed a few issues he had regarding frame rates. For fun, I thought it would be fun to take that footage and make a video for him.
One thing that blew me away was how stable a GoPro Hero 7 is with its built-in stabilization software. No gimbal needed as it can truly create super smooth footage with virtually no post-production needed. All we did was work the curves, played with the grade and added some cool music.
Keep it up man!
