To the human eye, 99% totality in Charlottetown was "underwhelming". As eyes adjusted to the dimming daylight, it felt more like 50-60% less light. Here's how it looked through the lens of a camera with the exposure locked and set for full sun

What do you remember about the heating system in your childhood home? I remember piling cords and cords of chopped wood in the basement. Big blocks on the floor, kindling sticks at the top. I think I enjoyed the chore... especially with some good 80's music playing. Our first wood furnace wasn't terribly efficient. I believe we burned 13 cords one winter.

There were certainly no “heat pumps” around when central heating systems were being introduced in PEI. Hazel explains what her grandmother thought of the idea.

Well deserved, Dr. Ed!

I would like to add my congratulations to Dr. Edward Macdonald on his recent appointment to the Order of Canada, for “his leadership as a historian and scholar of Prince Edward Island, and for his mentorship of tomorrow’s heritage conservationists.” As UPEI professor “Dr. Ed” was being int...

Happy New Year! As we look ahead to 2024, it’s also a time when we look back on the good-ol’ days.

Over the past couple of weeks, friends and family have been gathering together to celebrate the season. Many conversations began with phrases like “Remember the time when…”, or “When we were kids…”

Reminiscing is certainly a big part of many gatherings over the Christmas holidays. Did someone mention that maybe it’s time to record some of those family stories so they won't be lost?

Is 2024 the year that you save some of those family stories? I can help!

Today's is a more sombre memory for sure. Did you know that about HALF of the Acadians deported were 15-years old or younger?

It's MEMORY MONDAY at PEIvideo.com! Today, we'll take a glimpse back to Christmas of 2015. Here's the 3-minute version of the Souris Santa parade that year. What was on the wish list in 2015? 🌨🌨🌨 I think nearly everyone in this video is wishing for a lot less snow than the previous winter!

It's MEMORY MONDAY at PEIvideo.com!
Usually in this space I would select a clip from my archive of video interviews, but today I want to show a story that was shared yesterday at the "Celebrating 30-years of Funeral Service" event at Belvedere.

This memory is a great example of how many of the big things in our lives began with small moments. And when small moments develop into big things, those small moments become great memories!

Congratulations Faye! You are truly amazing.

How do Canadian clothing retailers make sales across the country? Create an online Black Friday deal, of course... Easy peasy!

But how did they do it in the early 1900's? Catherine explains how suits were sold from PEI to men in western Canada.
Fascinating!

"First Jobs" is a fun topic to explore. Wayne remembers operating the addressograph machine at the Guardian office.

What 'first job' did you have?
Does that job still exist?
Did you use any tools/equipment that are no longer used today?

Today for FLASHBACK FRIDAY, I'd like to say 'thank you' to Eddie, Josh, Faye, and Julie. You are four amazing storytellers.

There are tears of sadness. There are tears of joy. Rarely do the two roll down your cheek at the same time. “United by Song” celebrates community through storytelling and song” When I read that description, I knew this was going to be a must-see event for me. I do love storytelling, especiall...

In 2006, after 15 years in the TV-news business, I started up my own video production company and carried on with my passion for capturing stories. There have been dozens of entrepreneur stories for the Junior Achievement PEI Business Hall of Fame, stories of triumph over adversity for PEI Special Olympics, and stories of celebration at Island festivals from tip to tip. I’ve enjoyed it all immensely, and that’s why I’m so excited to take my story-capturing experience to now offer Legacy Interviews — helping Islanders preserve their family stories. Everyone has a story to tell. What’s yours?
