A couple of hours ago I read about I-40 between Knoxville and Asheville washing out and my first thought was that I had driven on that road to visit my daughter and to do concerts.... the times that I drove that road with Emmylou and also with The Delevantes and the Mike Plume Band, all to play shows in Asheville. I'm stunned at that road being gone and in mountainous terrain like that it will be a major engineering job to rebuild that road. If the new road being built through the Golden area in BC is any comparison at all, it could be a very long time. I hope all no more lives are lost, lives always come first...
I was looking at some of the pictures online, and they look just like pictures of WW2, or in Ukraine, where bombs hit and buildings were obliterated.
My daughter used to live outside Asheville I'm very proud of her for trying to help people find housing.
Actually, as winter is getting closer, if you hear of people needing winter clothing.. that might be something that us people from northern climates can help with. Us Canucks might have some use here and we should be very willing to start spreading the word.
A lot of areas in the US won't have spare winter garb simply because they dont wear it. If you hear of somewhere to ship clothing to, please let me know. I'd be willing to fill some large trucks like 5 tons and drive down.
When we have done the clothing drives that I do for the homeless or poor, we have filled warehouses. Maybe it sounds silly.. I don't know.
But please let me know. At the very least, please pass on any shipping destinations for clothing. My database for emailing for concerts is over 100,000 people now. With a multiplier of 5 or 10 or more, I could reach the equivalent of the city of Calgary within hours.
I just I just want to help... I dunno..
I'm going to at least make a generic Facebook post reminding people that us Canadians should search out places to ship winter clothing to .. or even contact the Red Cross. With that whole area around Asheville being so mountainous, it could be a very grim winter.
But as always, charity does begin at home...please remember our own homeless. Maybe for every article that you send south, give one to our own homeless. Make this a Christmas of truly giving...
