Sometimes last week, I was preparing Deedee for school and like a typical 4 year old she wanted to dress herself up. No worries!

She was dressing up as I got busy preparing her breakfast. By the time I looked to check what she was doing, she had worn her singlet inside out.

I corrected her and she asked if she should remove it and wear it correctly. I told her not to bother. Don’t judge me, we were running late🙈

Next thing, my girl was asking if she could also wear her top inside out! Ah🙄

It was at this moment I realized I had messed up! I had concluded it was okay to wear it that way since it was not visible externally.

Long story cut short, we started all over. No more inside out dressing both inside and outside.

Later in the day, while I thought on what transpired. I started to relate this to our daily living and relationship with others.

How we treat those close to us lesser than random strangers who don’t actually give a damn about us! Simply because they are insiders

How we shower influencers with so much love, same love we refused to show our friends. You won’t even subscribe to their channels or follow their business page.

Let’s bring this home! It’s how we keep the best wares for visitors and just like that it’s been locked in your cabinet for years. Aunty, visitor is not coming! Bring it out and use it to honor your family.

You may not have on ‘extra’ outfits indoor but it’s wrong to wear tattered clothes. How is it that you only freshen up when you have to go out? So outsiders don’t deserve body and mouth odour but your family members do? Mba oh!

You are soft spoken, kind and a good listener to those outside but your spouse can’t even have an honest conversation with you indoor, heavens will fall. You won’t even listen. Bad words we can never say to complete strangers, we use them on our spouse.

I could go on and on! Let’s keep the same energy or better still, our family deserves the best of us. Be good, respectful, supportive inside and outside and if you ever have to do more, let it begin from inside!

Let’s evaluate our ‘inside’ life bearing in mind that God is everywhere and He sees us inside and outside!

DON'T BE A STRANGER - by
There is so much busyness in the world now and while we may think we are present in the lives of our partners, we may be drifting apart without realizing it. The economic situation doesn’t make this any better.

Really, it would take some intentionality to remain present in the life of one’s spouse.

This month of July, we are running an intimacy challenge for couples in the uncovered for Mr and Mrs group and one of the compulsory activities for the day is to spend 15 minutes uninterrupted with your spouse daily.

When King D proposed this activity, I felt 15 minutes was a little time and would easily pass by….how wrong I was!

Now this 15-minute intimate talking time is not to discuss the children, colleagues, family members…but you! Your joys, memories, goals, fears, etc.

You may find it shocking that many couples are out of things to discuss because of the wide gap between them over the years.

Here are some intentional steps to take to remain present in each other’s lives;

-Keep gadgets away, maintain physical contact (hands intertwined, resting head on his shoulders, head rested on her laps, looking into each other’s eyes, etc), and ask your spouse sincerely “How are you?”. As a rule of thumb, “I’m fine is not an acceptable answer to this question”, they must be willing to let it all out. I usually ask King D, ‘Are you happy?’, he initially found the question strange but now welcomes it and shares freely.

– Don’t neglect communication outside the home. It’s not good to leave the house, spend 8 to 9 hours at work, and not think to reach out to your partner. That’s too long a time. “I’m busy is not an excuse”, a 2-minute call, voice message is better than nothing. Stay connected in the midst of your busyness.

– Be a good listener. Don’t listen to be a judge, it discourages openness.

– Schedule time to carry out each other’s hobbies together. Dance together, sing together, tickle each other.

– Be intentional about sharing every important news about you with your partner first. It makes them feel extra special.

SUPPORT YOUR WOMAN – IWD

One thing common to many great men whose stories we have watched or read is the tremendous support of the woman in their life. She throws her weight behind him, supports him in his endeavor, encourages him when it seems like he is giving up, and would be the first to sing his praise even before his success becomes visible to the world.

Even though we can say that of some women, it’s quite a few. There are many women out there whose spouses do not support them in pursuing their dreams for whatever reasons. When last have you sat your woman down to ask her what she genuinely wants out of life and how she would want you to support her in achieving same?

If you are privileged to have a woman in your life, pls be a bridegroom indeed. Before she’s a wife or mother, she’s first a human with dreams and aspirations and she deserves to live her dreams. Do not be selfish and demand of her unnecessary sacrifices.

It hurts to see women who could have become giants in their space whether career, spiritual, political, or whatever space, become a nobody in the name of marriage. I know your usual line is that she’s making a sacrifice and her children will thank her for it, but do you know that she can be a wife and mother and still be all God wants her to be? Let your woman live!

And to you woman, don’t lose yourself! There is a lot more to you than being a ‘Mrs’ and ‘Mummy’, remember those dreams and aspirations, you don’t have to bury them. Live and blossom.
