How to build Consistency:

1. Start small 🌱
- Begin with simple, manageable habits. For example, if you want to exercise regularly, start with 5–10 minutes a day instead of an hour.

2. Anchor habits to existing routines 🪢
- Tie your new habit to an existing one. For instance, if you already brush your teeth every morning, use that as a cue to drink a glass of water afterward.

3. Set clear goals 🎯
- Define your habits clearly. Instead of saying, "I want to read more," say, "I will read one chapter every night before bed."

4. Use reminders and cues ⏰
- Set alarms, place sticky notes, or create visual triggers to remind yourself of your habit.

5. Focus on consistency, not perfection 💪
- Aim to show up regularly, even if it’s not perfect. For instance, doing a 5-minute workout is better than skipping entirely.

6. Track your progress 📊
- Use a habit tracker or journal to record your daily progress. Seeing a streak grow can be highly motivating.

7. Reward yourself 🎉
- Celebrate small wins to reinforce the habit. This could be as simple as enjoying your favorite coffee after completing a task.

8. Make it enjoyable 🥳
- Find ways to make the habit fun. For example, listen to music or a podcast while exercising.

9. Remove barriers 🚪
- Simplify your environment to make habits easier to stick to. If you want to eat healthier, prep meals or keep fruits and vegetables easily accessible.

10. Commit to a time frame ⏳
- Habits typically take around 21 to 66 days to solidify, depending on the complexity. Focus on building consistency during this period.

11. Have an accountability partner 👥
- Share your goals with someone who can encourage you and hold you accountable.

12. Reflect and adjust 🔄
- Periodically evaluate your progress and adjust as needed. If something isn’t working, tweak it to fit your lifestyle better.

✨ What habit are you working on? Let’s brainstorm more specific ideas!

: Nike’s Success Story – Lessons from the Swoosh 🏃‍♂️👟✨

At The Givlin Gals, we’re inspired by brands that build movements, not just products. Nike is the perfect example. From its humble beginnings to becoming a $51.2 billion powerhouse in 2023, Nike has mastered the art of multimedia marketing and storytelling to dominate the global sportswear industry. Here's how they did it—and what local businesses can learn.

1. Nike’s Origin: The "Shoe Dog" Story 👟🐾
Nike’s story began in 1964 when Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight started Blue Ribbon Sports (later Nike). In "Shoe Dog", Knight recounts how they built Nike with relentless innovation and bold decisions. This authenticity resonates deeply with consumers, creating an emotional connection beyond sneakers.

2. Themes That Define Nike's Marketing: 💡🔥
Nike's campaigns go beyond selling shoes—they inspire. Themes like empowerment 💪, overcoming challenges ⛰️, equality 🤝, and pushing limits make Nike a movement. Their legendary slogan “Just Do It” isn’t just a tagline—it’s a call to action that connects emotionally with millions worldwide.

3. Multimedia Marketing: The Secret Sauce 🎥📲
Nike thrives on multimedia marketing channels, including:

A) Television & Video 📺: Iconic ads like the Colin Kaepernick campaign brought bold, socially impactful messages to life, sparking global conversations.

B) Social Media 📱: With 291M+ Instagram followers, Nike leverages social platforms for storytelling, athlete endorsements, and interactive content.

C) Apps 📲 & E-commerce 💻: Nike’s apps (Nike Training Club, SNKRS) and website offer personalized experiences, driving direct sales and loyalty.

D) Collaborations 👥: Nike’s partnerships with celebrities (e.g., LeBron James, Serena Williams) and brands (Off-White, Travis Scott) create cultural relevance.

E) In-Person Experiences 🏃‍♀️: Community-building events like marathons and pop-ups foster connections and boost engagement.

Why it works: These channels create a cohesive message that reaches consumers wherever they are, making Nike omnipresent in the sports and lifestyle markets.

4. Nike’s Impact on Business: By the Numbers 💰📊
A) Financial Growth 📈: Nike’s revenue jumped from $32 billion in 2016 to over $51 billion in 2023.

B) Digital Strategy 💻: Nike’s digital sales reached 26% of its revenue in 2022, highlighting the power of online marketing.

C) Community Connection 🤗: Their focus on social justice and inclusion aligns with consumer values, building trust and loyalty.

5. Key Takeaways for Local Business Owners 💡
A) Tell Your Story 📖: Like Nike’s "Shoe Dog" story, share your
journey authentically. People buy from brands they connect with.

B) Go Omnichannel 🌐: Utilize multiple platforms (social media, email, events, video, and apps) to create a seamless brand experience.

C) Be Bold ⚡: Don’t shy away from making bold statements or aligning your brand with causes that resonate with your audience.

D) Leverage Partnerships 🤝: Collaborate with local influencers or businesses to expand your reach.

E) Focus on Community 🤝: Host events, build experiences, and make your customers feel part of something bigger.

At The Givlin Gals, we believe marketing is about connecting, inspiring, and delivering experiences. Nike’s success is proof that storytelling combined with strategic multimedia marketing can build not just a brand but a legacy.

Day #2 of Best Version Media's YES Conference Day!

Looking to Maintain or Grow? 🧐🎉

Determining the appropriate marketing budget for your Calgary-based business with an annual revenue of $1.5 million depends on your objectives—whether to maintain current customer retention or to foster growth.

Here's a breakdown based on research and industry statistics:

1. Maintaining Customer Retention: 🏃‍♀️

To sustain your current market position and ensure ongoing customer retention, it's generally recommended to allocate approximately 5% to 10% of your gross revenue to marketing efforts. This range is suggested for small B2C businesses aiming to maintain their market share.

2. Pursuing Business Growth: 📈

If your goal is to actively grow your business and increase market share, a higher investment in marketing is advisable. Allocating between 10% and 20% of your gross revenue can provide the necessary resources to expand your brand's reach and attract new customers. This higher percentage supports more aggressive marketing strategies essential for growth.

Considerations for Brand Awareness Strategies: 🧐

Digital Marketing Focus: Given the increasing importance of digital channels, it's prudent to allocate a significant portion of your marketing budget to digital marketing efforts. In 2023, companies allocated an average of 13.6% of their total budgets to marketing, with a substantial portion directed towards digital marketing.

Industry Benchmarks: While these percentages serve as general guidelines, it's beneficial to consider industry-specific benchmarks. For instance, B2C companies that sell products typically spend about 13.9% of their revenue on marketing, whereas B2B companies that sell services allocate around 12% of their revenue.

Strategic Allocation: 🎯

Assess Current Marketing Efforts: Evaluate the effectiveness of your existing marketing strategies to identify areas that yield high returns and those that may require adjustment.

Set Clear Objectives: Define specific goals for your brand awareness campaigns, whether it's increasing brand recognition, entering new markets, or launching new products.

Monitor and Adjust: Regularly track the performance of your marketing initiatives and be prepared to reallocate funds to strategies that demonstrate the highest return on investment.

By aligning your marketing budget with your business objectives and industry standards, you can effectively maintain customer retention or drive growth as desired.

✨ Marketing Tips from the Givlin Gals - Jenn Givlin & Victoria Givlin : Building a Timeless Brand 🏔️.

1. Nail Your Origin Story 🎯
◀️-Throwback Tip: Every great brand has a memorable origin story. Reflect on what inspired your business and share that story authentically with your audience.
⏩-Modern Insight: Build on this by weaving your story into your digital presence—create an “About Us” page or a video that showcases your journey.

2. Create a Signature Look 💅
◀️ -Throwback Tip: Iconic brands like Coca-Cola or Chanel are instantly recognizable because of consistent logos, colors, and fonts.
⏩ -Modern Insight: Ensure your visuals stay cohesive across all platforms—your website, Instagram, and even your TikToks. Branding is no longer static; adapt visuals for short-form video, too.

3. Know (and Talk to) Your Audience 🔊
◀️ -Throwback Tip: Remember the door-to-door era? Businesses thrived by speaking directly to their customers.
⏩ -Modern Insight: Use personalization tools like email automation, targeted ads, and analytics to connect meaningfully with your audience. Build loyalty with personalized offers, stories, and community interactions.

4. Quality Over Quantity 💯
◀️ -Throwback Tip: Back in the day, the motto was “Do one thing and do it well.” Focus on creating quality products or services that customers trust.
⏩ -Modern Insight: Translate this into your social and content marketing strategy. A few strong, engaging posts will drive better results than spamming mediocre ones.

5. Be Human, Always 🫂
◀️ -Throwback Tip: Remember the days of handwritten thank-you notes and face-to-face interactions? Customers value personal connections.
⏩ -Modern Insight: Leverage tools like live chats, personalized email responses, and authentic social media interactions. Show the faces behind the brand—like the Givlin Gals do—so customers connect with the people, not just the product.

6. Stay Relevant but Honour Tradition 💗
◀️ -Throwback Tip: Established brands don’t shy away from their legacy. Think of heritage campaigns that evoke nostalgia.
⏩ -Modern Insight: Use nostalgia creatively in your marketing while staying in tune with modern trends. Combine the old-school charm of storytelling with new-school tech like Instagram Reels or AR filters.

7. Invest in Your Community 📍
◀️ -Throwback Tip: Brands that thrived in the past knew how to give back—sponsoring events, joining local parades, or organizing community drives.
⏩ -Modern Insight: The same applies today! Stay active in your community (online and offline). Collaborate with influencers, support local causes, and host meaningful events to strengthen your brand's reputation.

8. Be Consistent, Everywhere 💌
◀️ -Throwback Tip: In the past, consistency in messaging was easier due to fewer platforms.
⏩ -Modern Insight: With countless digital touchpoints, consistency is harder yet more critical than ever. Align your values, messaging, and tone across social media, your website, email campaigns, and even your customer support.

✨ Building a Timeless Brand That Stands the Test of Time 🏔️:

🙏 Revisit Your Why: Always reconnect with your brand’s purpose.

🖥️ Innovate Without Losing Your Core: Balance staying current with staying true to your roots.

🤗 Engage Authentically: Make real connections with your audience, whether through storytelling, live streams, or in-person events.

🎉 Celebrate Milestones: Use throwbacks to honor achievements and inspire trust.

🌊 Stay Adaptable: A timeless brand isn’t rigid; it evolves with the needs of its audience and changes in culture or technology.

☺️ As the Givlin Gals would say, a timeless brand doesn’t just sell—it creates experiences and fosters connections that people cherish for generations!

🌟 Marketing Monday with the Givlin Gals 🌟

Did you know that nearly 80% of consumers act on direct printed mail ads compared to just 45% for electronic ones? 🤯 That’s not just a stat—it’s a game-changer for businesses looking to stand out.

Here’s why print marketing is still a heavy hitter in today’s digital age:
✅ 9% customer response rate for print/direct mail compared to 1% or less for digital channels.
✅ 20% higher motivation response when print ads engage multiple senses.
✅ Print ads drive higher brand recall than digital ads (77% vs. 46%).
✅ Even younger audiences (18–23) find it easier to read print over digital content (92% of them agree!).

But here’s the kicker: while digital ads are slightly better at converting engaged readers into action-takers (64% vs. 55%), print excels at drawing attention and leaving a lasting impression.

✨ Our Takeaway: For a balanced marketing strategy, use print ads to build trust, grab attention, and boost brand recall—then amplify it with digital tools to encourage quick action.

If you want to learn how to incorporate both for maximum impact, let’s chat! We’re all about creating marketing strategies that deliver results. 📩

01/07/2025

*Being authentic in marketing* means staying true to your brand's values, showing realness, and genuinely connecting with your audience. Here's a quick guide, followed by an exercise to apply it:

🌟 Steps for Authentic Marketing:
1. ❤️ Define Your Core Values:
Be clear on your "why." Why does your business exist, and what does it stand for? Ensure all your marketing reflects this.

2. 👥 Know Your Audience:
Understand your customers' values, needs, and pain points. Authenticity resonates when it aligns with what your audience cares about.

3. 💡 Be Transparent:
Share real stories, behind-the-scenes content, and even challenges. People connect with honesty.

4. 🎭 Show Personality:
Avoid being overly corporate. Use language and visuals that feel human, relatable, and true to your brand voice.

5. 📸 Use User-Generated Content (UGC):
Showcase testimonials, reviews, and photos/videos from real customers to build trust and authenticity.

6. 💬 Engage in Two-Way Communication:
Listen to your audience, respond to their comments/questions, and build relationships.

7. 🔗 Consistency is Key:
Ensure your message aligns across all platforms, from social media to email campaigns, and stays consistent with your brand.

📝 Exercise: "The Authentic Marketing Map"
This activity will help you identify ways to make your marketing more authentic.

Step 1: ✍️ Define Your Brand Voice
- Write down three adjectives that describe your brand personality (e.g., friendly, bold, approachable).
- Now, list two ways you can reflect these traits in your messaging (e.g., use humour, share personal anecdotes).

Step 2: 📖 Identify Core Stories
- Think of a moment or story that demonstrates why you started your business. Write it out in a few sentences.
- Then, brainstorm how you can share this story (social post, email newsletter, or even a video).

Step 3: 🗳️ Engage Your Audience
- Create a poll, Q&A, or ask your audience for feedback on something fun or meaningful (e.g., “What does self-care mean to you?”).
- Plan a way to share their responses publicly to build connection and trust.

Step 4: ✅ Check for Alignment
- Review one of your recent campaigns. Does it reflect your brand voice and values? If not, tweak it by adding an authentic element (like a real customer success story).

My Journey ❤

As someone who has faced mental health challenges, I know how important it is to raise awareness and support those who are struggling. That’s why I’ve set a personal challenge: completing 2,000 push-ups in just 18 days, from February 11 to February 28, as part of the campaign.

This is more than a fitness goal—it's a way to shine a light on mental health and break the stigma around seeking help. Every push-up represents resilience, strength, and hope for those on their journey toward mental wellness.

I’m proud to partner with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) for this challenge. The funds raised will directly support their vital work, from mental illness recovery programs to fostering positive mental health in communities across Canada. Together, we can create a future where mental health is a priority for everyone.
Your support can make a difference! Whether it's a donation, sharing this campaign, or cheering me on during these 18 days, every action matters.

Let's push for better mental health together. 💪
You can donate and track my progress!
Thank you for standing with me—and for standing with those who need it most.

This holiday season feels a little different for us as we reflect on the passing of Susan Kemp, our beloved matriarch, grandma, and mother. This is our first Christmas without her, and while her absence is deeply felt, we also carry her wisdom and warmth with us.

As a mother-daughter duo, Victoria and Jenn want to share a few valuable lessons Susan taught us that continue to shape our lives today:

✨ Cherish Every Moment – Life is fleeting, and the time we have with loved ones is precious. Never take a single moment for granted. Hug those you love a little tighter, laugh a little louder, and appreciate the simple things that make life meaningful.

✨ Give from the Heart – Susan always taught us that true gifts come from the heart, whether it's time, kindness, or a listening ear. This Christmas, let’s focus on the giving that makes us all feel connected—whether it's through acts of love, support, or a smile to someone who needs it.

✨ Stay Close, Stay Strong – Family is everything. Through thick and thin, Susan showed us the strength that comes from sticking together. As we celebrate this season, we’re reminded of the importance of leaning on each other, supporting one another, and lifting each other up.

In the spirit of Susan, we encourage everyone to hold their loved ones close and hug one another tight this holiday season. Take time to reflect on the love that surrounds you and cherish those moments of connection, laughter, and joy.

From our hearts to yours, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas filled with love, peace, and beautiful memories. 💖
