Anonymous Visitor is a mixtape glued together with left-overs of rough recorded KRAMP cassettes that were most of the time left behind on trains or donated in letterboxes as an anonymous invitation. The cassettes are a collection of weird field recordings and distorted sound experiments brought together on 2 tape decks. One is doing his job and the other one is broken after it drank too much water from the sea during a recording in Athens. From then on, the sound of the sea is caught into the machine, the speed is totally uncontrollable and the play button doesn't hold itself.

Callosal

For two no-input mixing boards and one Joseon bowl fragment.

The two separate feedback systems were only able to communicate with and influence each other by vibrating through the bowl fragment. This fragment of a bowl made in Korea’s Joseon period was discovered by Alfred 23 Harth in Korea and given to me as a gift, for which I am very grateful. To place this artefact from centuries ago between two implements of modern electronic music-making suggests a larger point.

It is often, if not always, the case that different sets of potentials (technological or otherwise) can only operate with and on each other through the traditions, attitudes and frames of thought passed down to us by our history. In such situations, it is wise not only to evaluate the possibilities themselves as though they were in isolation, but also to take into account the breadth or narrowness of these attitudinal conduits through which they must pass in their constant communication with each other as they co-evolve, in order to properly gauge how this evolution is developing and what might be changed in order to encourage progress along a more universally beneficial path.

"On this recording, I use my self-designed 'coincidence drum sticks'. Because they are flexible and tall, I don't have total control over them, which makes that they create sounds by accident, which I combine with more controlled sounds. This way, I get constantly surprised by my own playing. I find sounds which originate by accident very important in improvised music"

"I was sitting in a white tent which was the luminous element and playing with feedback, a drum pad, a stroboscope, a wig and a headlamp. The electric impulse of the stroboscope was inserted in the mixer and was influencing the sound. It can cut off the sound and make a rhythm (strobodrumcomputer) so the rhythm and the light are synchronized and are coming from the inside of the tent (where also the performer is located). "

"When I was 15, I went to the library to borrow a Sonic Youth CD because I already spent my monthly pocket money on 'Nevermind'. They didn't have their latest album ('Dirty') so I borrowed the previous one ('Goo'), copied it on a tape and brought the CD back to the library. But as was often the case with CDs from the library, it was damaged. So what I heard on my tape was: the intro of a song and then 4 seconds of 'Goo' skipping back and forward for ten minutes. Doesn't sound bad. Doesn't sound bad at all".

(Q) Let's talk about your recording.

(A) It's shortwave radio noise.

(Q) Can you still receive analog antenna radio signals?

(A) Until the end of the year.

(Q) So it's kind of a time document.

(A) Isn't any record a time document?
