“Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.”

The clouds lit up in red as the sun slowly came up this morning. We desperately need rain, which is forecasted this afternoon and into this evening.

Hoping that this stunning photo is a sign of relief for the community of Lake George and the firefighters and volunteers who have been working around the clock fighting the wildfire in our community.

Pictured is Aylesford & District Volunteer Fire Department, brush truck, responding back to the Lake George wildfire this morning, as smoke drifts across Aylesford Road in Morristown.

The fire was last estimated to cover an area of 285 hectares and still remains classified as out of control.

Numerous volunteer fire departments including, Aylesford, Brooklyn, Berwick, Nictaux, Bridgetown & Kingston have returned back to Lake George.

Dozens of Department of Natural Resources staff alongside British Columbia wildfire crews are also back on the fire grounds.

Nova Scotia Public Safety Field Communications has trucks and staff on site to help enhance and support radio coverage, while EHS Paramedics also have their command units positioned at the ready.

Heavy machinery will continue to work the fire creating fire breaks around the perimeter.

There are a number of different agencies that are also assisting in the efforts, including, contracted security, Department of Public Works, Department of Natural Resources Conservation officers, Department of Fisheries - Conservation and Protection officers and other agencies not listed.

A dozen helicopters are also at the fires disposal, while four NWT 802 skimmers and two NFLD CL-415s are all staged at the Greenwood base.

Temperatures are expected to reach higher than normal averages for this time of year over the next two days, which might not be favourable for fire suppression.

Anticipated rain is forecasted for Wednesday, which will help with efforts. Our fingers are crossed this comes..

Our community has continued to support in waves with donations and support for not only the firefighters but the community members who remain evacuated.

All evacuations and road closures still remain in place on Aylesford Road and North River Road in the communities of Morristown and Lake George.

The Lake George wildfire is still out of control and grew slightly yesterday to an estimated at 267 hectares. No reports of damage to structures.

Crews were successful in preventing larger growth despite dry windy conditions yesterday and will give it their best effort again today to protect homes and other structures.

Resources today include 28 DNR, 39 BC and 31 local firefighters, 2 Newfoundland and 4 NWT planes, 1 DNR and 5 contracted helicopters, and 18 pieces of heavy equipment.

Over the weekend, social media updates will be posted if there is an important new detail to report, such as a change in the estimated size of the fire. Daily posts will resume around midday on Monday.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR & BOARD OF DIRECTORS CHANGE

Nova Scotia Firefighters School Announces Leadership Transition

[Waverley, NS] — The Nova Scotia Firefighters School has announced that Executive Director John
Cunningham will retire from the organization effective October 31. Mr. Cunningham has been a
familiar presence at the School for many years; the Board of Directors believes that his retirement
presents an opportunity to explore new and innovative directions in the best interests of the broad
fire service community of Nova Scotia and beyond.

This decision comes after a period of significant public discussion about the future direction of the
School. While many perspectives have been shared, one point has become clear: to rebuild
confidence and ensure the School continues to meet the evolving needs of Nova Scotia’s fire
service, meaningful change is required.

To that end, the School has appointed a new Board of Directors composed entirely of individuals
who have not previously held management roles at the School. This leadership group is committed
to a new vision - one grounded in transparency, accountability, and collaboration with all sectors of
the fire service and the provincial government.

As part of the transition, the School will be restructuring the management model. The position of
Executive Director will be replaced with a modernized leadership framework more reflective of
today’s fire service. Close cooperation with the recently appointed Fire Training Advisory
Committee will ensure the best possible model for delivering on the professional training
expectations of firefighters across the province.

The Board is also taking steps to broaden representation and dialogue. Discussions are underway to
include representation from IAFF locals and other key partners at the Board level. These measures
are intended to ensure all voices are heard, respected, and valued as the School moves forward.

“This is an opportunity to reset and to show the fire service in Nova Scotia that the School is
committed to meaningful progress,” said Mark Pound, Chair of the Board. “We are building a
structure that is more transparent, more representative, and more responsive to the needs of those who depend on us for training.”

The Nova Scotia Firefighters School is also pursuing partnerships to expand access to modern
equipment and training opportunities, with the goal of becoming a world-class institution serving
firefighters in every region of the province and beyond.

The Board extends its thanks to all members of the fire service community who have shared their
concerns and ideas. The School is committed to earning trust, demonstrating accountability, and
setting a new course for the future.

At 8:42 AM, responded to reports of a brush fire on Bissett Road in Cole Harbour.

Our members arrived quickly and were able to contain the fire before it spread further.

This is a good reminder that the fire ban remains in place. Conditions are extremely dry and the risk of wildfire is still high.

🔥 Halifax Professional Fire Fighters can no longer remain silent.

From wildfire preparedness to staffing, from equipment failures to workplace culture, the problems within HRFE leadership are widespread and deeply concerning.

Two years after the Tantallon wildfire destroyed 151 homes, we still see no meaningful improvements in protocols, surge staffing, or protective equipment. At the same time, management has targeted our members simply for speaking out and standing up for their colleagues.

Chief Ken Stuebing and the current Fire Management Group have lost the trust of the fire fighters who serve HRM. Our members — and the citizens we protect — deserve leadership that puts public safety and professional integrity ahead of optics.

These issues need to be fixed sooner than later our firefighters deserve better and the staffing of trucks needs to be addressed as well. Halifax Fire's top brass needs to do better and staff these trucks that only have two firefighters on them.
