Sunny Days Radio is the result of a life long love of Music. I grew up in Wales in the sixties and I can tell you that it was an amazing time and an amazing place. Cardiff had some interesting venues for concerts and age was not a barrier. Also we had a few pirate radio stations that we could listen to if all the conditions were right.
I moved to Canada in September 1969 and ended up in Brantford Ontario, a huge change from Cardiff. One huge difference was the music. Yes there were some bands that were the same ( Beatles, Zep etc) but there was also a ton of new music for me. I discovered Lighthouse, Crowbar,,,, CKPC and CHUM and my new journey began.
As I had missed the sixties in Canada I had a bit of catching up to do so my journey into CanCon began. Local, regional and national artists were added to my ever growing music library. At this point in time there was no such thing as CanCon so for a 14 year old it was harder to learn about alot of the local and regional bands because they played mostly in bars. So school dances and local pick up bands where my introduction into “the music business”. There was a band in Brantford that was formed by several guys from my high school and another local school. They were called Max Rat and as I was one of the only guys at the time who had a drivers license and a car, I became a roadie. ( They did not have to persuade me, I was right there in a flash). Max Rat became Black Friar and out of these bands came Scott Merrit who later on was on Duke St Records and is now running a studio in Guelph.
After a few years of wandering and checking out as many bands as I could, I went to Sir Sandford Fleming College in Peterborough and here my journey into the music business started to really take shape. I started working for the Student Council as a photographer which got me into all the events and concerts for free. When I was through with getting the photos for the school I would stick around and help. During my time at Sir Sandford I got to work with Shooter, Bond, Ocean , Lisle and many more that I cannot recall. As well as the college I would hang out at a few of the clubs and help out with the bands. This period was a huge learning time for me.
