The 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique is a simple yet powerful way to manage anxiety and bring yourself back to the present moment. Here's how it works:
Notice 5 things you can see 👀: Look around and name five things you can visually observe.
Identify 4 things you can touch ✋: Focus on the texture of your clothing, a soft blanket, or the surface of your desk.
Listen for 3 things you can hear 👂: Maybe it’s the hum of a fan, the sound of birds, or distant chatter.
Acknowledge 2 things you can smell 👃: If nothing comes to mind, consider scents you enjoy like coffee or a candle.
Focus on 1 thing you can taste 👅: Take a sip of water or notice the lingering flavor of something you’ve eaten.
