The 2000 Memorial Cup belonged to the Rimouski Oceanic, but the tournament was marred by the Barrie Colts' antics. The Colts walked out of the pre-tournament banquet, were fined $5k, and lost their first game. They made it to the semifinals but were defeated by Rimouski. One day before the final, one of the Colts' players took aim at Rimouski's Brad Richards, but Richards went on to score two goals and set up two others, leading the Oceanic to a 6-2 victory and earning the tournament's MVP award. Goaltender Frederic Deschenes had two shutouts in the tournament, and defenseman Francis Bouillon saw the win as a dream come true after 25 years. The tournament also featured Brandon Wheat Kings and Guelph Storm.
