Alumni Spotlight: Jack Bynum '80
Graduating with a BA in Business Administration and Religion in 1980, Jack Bynum was a member of the Black Student Alliance as well as Interfaith Worship. Although he did not participate in any team sports, Jack enjoyed bowling and s***t shooting.
Bynum, whose hobbies include singing, listening to music, and playing piano and keyboard, recently launched JL Bynum Enterprises, LLC. The mission of his business is "to produce and promote professional and creative writing that will enlighten, enrich, and elevate the widest possible public to a higher level of consciousness, greater literary appreciation, and enhanced life experiences." Jack is the author of "Proverbial Tree: African Proverbs and Biblical Scriptures."
Bynum, who has served as an ordained Elder for over forty years, had the following to say about being a Battling Bishop. "I loved the academics, interfaith worship and the family atmosphere." Jack also participates in Gospel of Love Ministries and is a member of the Visually Impaired Persons of Edgecombe County and the National Federation of the Blind.
Jack Bynum has an inspirational story to tell as he shares his successes since he has left NC Wesleyan College. "I am grateful for every success and blessing, but the one that brings me the greatest joy is my family. I have been visually impaired (zero vision) since 2008. In 2007, I graduated from the School of Theology of Virginia Union University (Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology) with a Master of Divinity Degree. I have been privileged to travel in four continents (Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America). After my vision loss, I took training through Vocational Rehabilitation and learned to read braille. Afterwards, I took numerous classes through the Hadley Institute for the Blind. Currently, I am working on three books."
