""Community in mourning after boy struck by vehicle while getting off school bus dies.
According to London police, shortly after 4:00 Monday afternoon, emergency crews responded to a serious collision involving a pedestrian at Longwoods Road and Murray Road in southwest London. All drivers remained at the scene. Caranci, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died the next day.

“You know with any fatal motor vehicle collision, that takes its toll on not only the families that are involved, and the communities that surrounds those families, but also on emergency personnel,” explained London Police Const. Matt Dawson. “And you know in this unfortunate circumstance, it’s no different, our thoughts are with the family and the community that surrounds that family, as well as all emergency personnel in the situation,” he added.

Police have released few details about the crash at this time, and Dawson says the investigation is ongoing.

Canada needs to double its military spending to meet NATO targets

The parliamentary budget officer says if the federal government wants to meet NATO's military spending target by 2032 as promised, it will have to almost double defence spending to $81.9 billion.
The budget watchdog made that conclusion in a report published Wednesday on the fiscal implications of meeting the NATO target, which stipulates that member states spend two per cent of their GDP on defence.

The parliamentary budget officer says if the federal government wants to meet NATO's military spending target by 2032 as promised, it will have to almost double defence spending to $81.9 billion.

The St. Stephen RCMP detachment is seeking the public's assistance following two break, enter and thefts in Chamcook, N.B.

The first break, enter and theft occurred during the early morning hours of September 19, 2024, at a camp on Access Road 2B, near Frye Road in Chamcook. An individual or individuals forcibly gained entry to the camp and an outbuilding, and stole a number of items including electronics. The interior of the camp was also vandalized.

The second break, enter and theft is believed to have occurred between September 16 and September 19, 2024, near the 500 block of Frye Road, also in Chamcook. Police believe the same individual or individuals forcibly gained entry to two trailers and stole a kayak, a leaf blower and a chainsaw.

Both residences were unoccupied at the time of the incidents.

If you were in the area at the time and witnessed the incident, or if you have information that could help further the investigation, please contact the St. Stephen RCMP at 506-466-7030. A 79-year-old man from Rocheville, N.B., has died following a two-vehicle collision in Bathurst.

On May 16, 2024, at approximately 12 p.m., members of the Chaleur Region RCMP detachment responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision between a car and a dump truck on Highway 11 in Bathurst. The driver and sole occupant of the car died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the dump truck was uninjured.

The crash is believed to have occurred when the driver of the car crossed the centre line and collided head-on with the dump truck.

Members of the Bathurst Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, and an RCMP collision reconstructionist also attended the scene. A Member of the New Brunswick Coroner's Office attended the scene and is assisting with the ongoing investigation. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the man's exact cause of death.

The highway was closed for a number of hours, and has since reopened.

UPDATE – REFUGE SERVICES, FIRE AT LOCAL BUSINESS
The City of Bathurst informs that the temporary refuge, set up at the City Hall Pavillion Gym, was closed at 3:00am on Sunday May 12, as displaced residents were either allowed to go back to their homes or had found alternate arrangements.

If some residents require assistance, they are asked to call the Bathurst Police Department at 548-0420.
