๐Ÿ“ธ Discover a Piece of Victorian History!

At 25 and Gold Creative Studio, we love sharing historical treasures that we come across. We thought this Victorian button pin from 1898, was such an interesting part of photographic history.

โœจ Why It Matters: This button pin, patented in 1898, reflects a time when photography was becoming popular among Victorians. During this era, people were fascinated by new ways to capture and preserve their image, making personal items like this pin not just decorative but also a part of the growing visual culture. Itโ€™s a unique piece that connects us to the early days of photography and its impact on personal adornment. Buttons such as these were also sometimes worn as mourning pins to honour someoneโ€™s life and their passing.

โœจ Just Digitized! โœจ
Weโ€™ve just digitized this beautiful glass plate negative that was from the Marceau Power Studio. This was an interesting photo to digitize from glass plate because the studio from which is came from was very renowned. It is believed this child was a child from the Power Family. The detail in these old photos never ceases to amaze me ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿ“ธ About Marceau Power Studio:

Founded by Theodore C. Marceau, a pioneering photographer known for capturing some of the most prominent figures of the time. His clients included Andrew Carnegie, and John F. Fitzgerald. His studio was known for its celebrity clientele, which helped solidify his reputationโ€‹. Marceauโ€™s work is celebrated for its attention to detail and use of theatrical backdrops, making his studio one of the most respected in the field. Marceau was also instrumental in founding the Professional Photographers Society of New York and the Copyright League, advocating for stronger copyright protection for photographers. He is credited with promoting the use of the ยฉ symbol for photographic workโ€‹.
We were so excited to be able to bring this glass plate negative, likely from the very early 1900s back to life.

๐Ÿ“ธโœจ Explore the Unique World of Stamp Portraits! โœจ๐Ÿ“ธ

A valued client recently shared with us a fascinating glass plate negative from their collection, and we asked if we could share the digitized version of this Stamp Portrait from Poughkeepsie, NY as itโ€™s a unique and rare piece of photographic history๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ About Stamp Portraits: Created in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these small, detailed photographs resemble postage stamps and are often referred to as the original โ€œwallet-sizeโ€ photos. They provided an affordable and compact way to capture and share personal images.

Why They Matter: Stamp Portraits were prized for their detailed craftsmanship and portability, making them popular keepsakes and a means to share memories with loved ones.

This photo was taken by photographer C.H Gallup who was based out of โ€˜Pokeepsie, N.Yโ€™. Iโ€™m not sure why they spelled it this way, as the correct way is Poughkeepsie, NY.

Do you have any unique historical photos in your familyโ€™s collection? Would you like to digitize your vintage and antique photos to share and protect them? Weโ€™d love to help. Feel free to give us a call or send us an email at : [email protected]

This photo is likely from the very first aviation school in Canadaโ€”The Curtiss Flying School. It operated on King Street in Toronto from 1915-1919.

Can anyone help figure out where this photo might be from and who these people may be? Itโ€™s dated 1916 and says โ€œNo. 3 Class - P.T. & B.F. - Toronto - Mar 1916. Blakemore 71 King Toronto No. 1386โ€
