All day we're helping the Auxiliary raise money to purchase new equipment for the North Hasting Hospital.

The Vision;
Imagine taking a stroll through Riverside Park on a Saturday, grabbing your breakfast and coffee and enjoying the vibrancy and talent of local artists on display…

The Backstory;
As a dedicated Farmers Market, BFM is only able to have a few artists show at market. Our primary purpose is to serve our community by bringing the BEST locally produced food to market every week.
Having received a number of applications from artisans last season and again this season, most of which we had to place on a wait list, the managers have been talking with our sponsors and insurers and we are SUPER pleased to be able to open…

The Artisan Market;
Running alongside the Farmers Market, the Artisan Market will be a place for local artists to meet and showcase!

So…
Are you a local artist looking for somewhere to meet/hang out with other artists and display your work? Then we’d LOVE to hear from you! We want to line the park with art from the street to the south end of the Farmers market EVERY Saturday, ALL season long! North Hastings Community Cupboard is pleased to announce “Food for Thought” a Trivia Night fundraiser. We’re encouraging community groups to form teams and come up to the Faraday Community Centre at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, for a fun night of trivia questions and to learn more about the Cupboard’s efforts to fight food insecurity in North Hastings. Thanks to everyone that came out during the Kapoa Poker Run in July! It was a truly amazing day, filled with amazing people. You helped raise money to make work at the hospital in Barry's Bay easier with some new equipment. You rock!

UPDATE: the highway is open to all traffic.

An accident has occurred on Highway 28 near Kawartha Dairy.

The road is currently closed in both directions and emergency services are on site.

OPP say there is currently a detour through Monk Road.

Today we are at the 59th Annual Rockhound Gemboree! North Hastings Community Center as well as the Bancroft Curling club has lots of gemtastic items!! The Curling club opens at 9:30 am till 6pm and the Community Center is open from 10 am till 6 pm. You will find me in the corner of the Community Center , stop by grab some swag and say hi and check out this event!

WHAT IS A RELAXED PERFORMANCE?

A relaxed performance is for anyone who may enjoy a calmer theatre environment. Relaxed performances were initially designed to make theatre spaces more comfortable and welcoming to audience members with autism spectrum disorders, sensory and communication disorders or learning disabilities. Other audience members who may benefit from Relaxed Performances include parents with toddlers, people with Tourette’s syndrome, people who experience anxiety, or even people who just don’t enjoy the conventions that are experienced in a traditional theatre setting. Some relaxed performances include adjustments to the technical elements of the show (for example, reducing the volume on loud sound cues or removing strobing lighting effects or full blackouts), leaving lights on a bit in the audience throughout the show, allowing audience members to leave the theatre and return at any point, and assuring patrons that noise and movement during the show is acceptable. They can also include the actors introducing themselves before the show and leading a pre-show discussion about any elements of the performance that patrons might find surprising or startling (moments of staged violence, actors entering into the audience etc.).For more information on relaxed performances please call the box office or email [email protected].

URGENT! Due to the rising need in our community we are completely out of these essential items: baked beans, canned vegetables, peanut butter, pasta sauce. Donations are greatly appreciated and can be placed in our collection bin at the No Frills, Foodland, Bancroft IDA Drug Mart as well as dropped off in person 10-3 Tues, Wed, Fri or 10-7 Thursdays. One can also donate our needed items if you participate in the Tiny Tattoo event July 28th at The Painted Lady Parlour. We are a small community with a lot of struggling families but also a community with an enormous amount of generosity!

We have a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for the area. Environment Canada is warning that heavy downpours could cause flash flooding and pooling water on roads. Strong winds are also expected which could toss loose objects, or damage weak trees and branches. They also remind you to take cover if lightning strikes…

The KAPOA 12th Annual Kamaniskeg Lake Poker Run will be held Saturday July 27th, 1PM to 8PM. Come support local healthcare and build community connections!

This year’s event will raise funds to be used to help purchase telemetry capabilities for the St. Francis Memorial Hospital Emergency Department. The use of telemetry capabilities in the hospital’s Emergency Department will allow a patient to have their vital signs monitored wirelessly giving them the ability to move throughout the Emergency Department more easily without cables attached to them.

3 best poker hands are eligible for prizes: 1st prize - $750; 2nd prize - $500; 3rd prize- $250

A dump truck is in the ditch on Highway 62 North in Bird's Creek just south of the Y Road intersection. Police are on scene, no lanes are being blocked, but drive carefully.
