March can be one of those months where pathways and patience begin to grow thin due to never ending snow, or it can hold us in a shoulder season time warp equally as frustrating.

The launches are too dangerous to access for ice fishing, its too warm to collect chaga but the grounds too frozen to garden and there's just enough snow in the bush to hinder shed hunting.

It's about this time of year the urge hits to start new routines and build onto previous works, then maybe a cold or flu reminds you to sit back down.

So in the spirit of sitting still and reflection over action, here are long overdue photos from a fun and frightfully cold drift in the fall of 2023 with the guys, Scott Tomblin and Jake Malolepszy.

So often when women are represented in the outdoors (across the board, whether it’s hunting, paddling, mountain biking) it’s as just beginners. There is nothing wrong with beginners and beginning a new hobby or passion— but it’s nice to highlight the women who have mastered a craft and have something to give back.

This 3-page spread of expert women across our country sharing places they’ve experienced, thrived and clearly dominated catching fish in is a breath of fresh air.

Alyssa chose a less conventional path as a photojournalist. Instead of chasing stories and photos in vast urban centres, she chose the sprawling lakes and rugged terrain of wild places. Although her focus is often shifted towards angling, Alyssa covers everything and anything in the outdoors including; hunting, paddling, camping as well as commercial work for lodges, resorts, tourism and experiential travel.

Alyssa is also the founder of Blind Casts, an interactive web series surrounding the trials and rewards of fly fishing.

As well as the founder of BushWoman Workshops. Outdoor workshops for women who want to create, learn more and acquire a sense of community in the outdoors. BushWoman is new as of 2018 and is quickly gaining traction with workshops focused on northern lights hunting, bushcraft, trapping, wilderness first aid as well as photography skills mixed with all things outdoors.
