The storms rolling through as a result of hurricane Fiona reminded me of this video Darlene and I shot a few years ago. This is a time-lapse though.

I remember Darlene being unhappy that we'd basically missed seeing the sun and only got clouds in the afterglow. She always considered the sunset to be over once you couldn't see the sun. This night I kept the camera recording for a while.

Elmvale Jungle Zoo reopened on May 21st, so I thought maybe it was time to share our Scimitar-horned oryx video again.
Darlene Vanwyck and I shot there twice, and I believe it's the only place we got video of the oryxs (oryxes?).
Our first trip to the Elmvale Jungle Zoo was a bit of a story, but maybe another time.

I'm sure most of you who follow this page are friends of myself or my wife Darlene (AKA the boss). In case any of you aren't, I need to share with you the terrible news that Darlene passed away earlier this week.

Only time will tell if Darlene's passing will be the end of this page, but the page certainly isn't a priority for me right now.

Shooting videos and telling stories through this medium was a passion for us both, and we were so happy that you enjoyed what we produced.

I was just thinking about how hot it's been lately, and how hard that must have been on plants. I'll be honest, I haven't been paying attention. I guess I need to take some time to stop and smell the flowers.

It was this line of thought that made me decide to share our peonies video. While we can't smell them through a screen we can at least enjoy their beauty and learn a bit about them.

I like to show Darlene behind the scenes, so I thought it only fair when I found this video of me from three years ago that I share it too.

We were both shooting that day at Walter's Falls and I just happened to get caught in the crossfire.

While we never made a video exclusively about Walters Falls some of the footage we shot that day did end up in our Grey County Fall Tour 2018 video. That video also has clips of Inglis Falls, Eugenia Falls, Meaford apples, Old Baldy, colourful back roads and the Owen Sound Harbour.

My Wednesday post this week is a new clip of Jones Falls at Springmount. .

This waterfall may seem to have been overlooked. If you scroll through the videos on our YouTube channel you'll see multiple videos of Inglis Falls, the falls at Weaver's Creek and Indian Falls, but not Jones Falls.

Jones Falls were a short walk from where Darlene grew up, so we were well aware of them. The issue with them is that they aren't all that easy to get to anymore. You used to be able to see them from the highway on your way out Owen Sound, but the view is now obscured by trees.

I didn't have time on this trip to climb to the bottom of the falls, but when I do I hope we'll be able to put together a full video for you on the channel.

I tried out our camera's time lapse feature the other night for a Southampton sunset. All of our other time lapses were done by speeding up the video in editing.

This isn't perfect, and the boss would never allow it on our YouTube channel, but I'm pretty happy with how the camera performed and how the video turned out.

I had our youngest with me, and he was good not to get in front of the camera (unlike some strangers further up the shore, as you'll see). He did, however, step off of a big rock onto some drift wood that moved a rock that was supporting the tripod, so there is some camera movement.

It's all good. We hadn't set out to shoot the sunset or to test the camera's abilities: we were searching for wildlife so we could get more footage for a video Darlene had already started. We saw nothing but sea gulls. Another day, perhaps.

This video was my idea and I did the research. The bird footage is almost entirely Darlene's.

Darlene had shot a lot of bird footage that she hadn't used. She'd thought there was an advantage as far as YouTube was concerned to having shorter videos, which is why we had so much more great video. (She also tends to edit fairly linearly, so if she wants 10 great shots then the shots after the first 10 will rarely get seen).

My idea was simply to use famous quotes about birds to tie together the various bird clips.

This simple still shot isn't part of any YouTube video we're making. We haven't been working on any of those since the boss got really sick in June (as our Facebook friends will know). We want to get back to them soon, but it'll be a while.
