Ontario Investing in More Accessible Communities - the Abilities Centre in Whitby to Receive $25,000 through Ontario’s EnAbling Change Program.

Ontario Investing in More Accessible Communities - the Abilities Centre in Whitby to Receive $25,000 through Ontario’s EnAbling Change Program.

The Ontario government is investing up to $1.5 million in the EnAbling Change Program this year to support not-for-profits, municipalities, and other organizations across the province that are developing and implementing innovative initiatives to make Ontario accessible to people of all abilities.

Eligible projects include those that increase the accessibility of community programs and services, as well as online initiatives, educational tools, and public outreach programs that help communities and businesses understand the benefits of accessibility and inclusion.

From this investment, the Abilities Centre in Whitby will receive $25,000.

“By working together with businesses, organizations and communities, we can build a stronger and more accessible Ontario,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “The EnAbling Change Program allows organizations to develop tailored supports ensure Ontario is open and inclusive to everyone.”

Over the past two years, the Ontario Government has invested over eight million dollars to the support the Abilities Centre in Whitby. This funding supports programs like therapeutic recreation and employment services that help people with varying abilities build life skills, stay healthy and active, and find meaningful work.

"The Abilities Centre is a vital resource for families in Whitby, offering essential supports for individuals with varying levels of ability. It’s a perfect example of how a local facility can create a strong, inclusive community,” said Lorne Coe, MPP for Whitby and Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier. “Our government is committed to supporting the important work of organizations like the Abilities Centre as we build an Ontario where individuals with disabilities can fully engage in their communities and live the lives they choose."

"This extra funding from the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility demonstrates the Province's commitment to improving the quality of life of Ontarians with disabilities", says Michael Cvitkovic, President & CEO of Abilities Centre. "These funds will allow us to reach more Ontarians with our life skills, sport and recreation, employment, and post- rehabilitation programs. The Centre is grateful for this increased investment from the Province."

QUICK FACTS
▪ The EnAbling Change Program started in 1999 and has supported more than 230 projects across Ontario. It provides funding to municipalities, not-for-profit, industry and professional associations across a range of sectors.
