2 YOUNGS STUDENTS MISSING
Two young students are reported missing, Kayly Barahona and Zoaney Enriques, have gone missing. They were last seen leaving Mopan Technical High school in Benque Viejo this afternoon and haven't been heard from since.
We urge everyone to keep an eye out and report any sightings or information immediately to the authorities. Time is of the essence, and every second counts in bringing these girls home safely.

Some Residents Of The Benque Viejo Town, Report what they would think if traffic lights were installed on this avenue, which is the busiest in Benque. There are already some accidents in these areas. Crashes and even people hit by cars trying to cross the roads.

Police are currently looking for two prisoners who escaped from custody - reportedly on their way from court in Belmopan back to the Central Prison in Hattieville. They are Brian Jerry Castillo Resident from Benque Viejo Town , who has been on remand for murder for two years and William Daniel Cervantes, a Belmopan resident on remand for r**e.
Anyone seeing these men is asked to call police immediately on your Location.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing informs the general public of the commencement of a critical road improvement project in Benque Viejo Town, Cayo District that will uplift a number of streets in that municipality.
Civil works include preparations for roadworks, drainage improvements, pavement layer levelling and improvement, application of hot-mix asphalt road surface overlay and the replacement or addition of traffic signs. Streets to be improved are Baymen Street, Burns Street, Cemetery Street, Elizabeth Street, Kennedy Street, Lomas del Rodeo Street, Maya Street, Mollejon Road, Pablo Guerra Mena Street, Riverside Street joining Cemetery Street, St. John Paul II Boulevard, Saint Joseph Street, Victoria Street, and Wyatt Street.
Works are scheduled to commence in early ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐ ๐ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก๐ฌ. The public is asked to be patient as these streets will be closed to traffic at times. Drivers are asked to exercise caution at all times and make use of alternate routes when provided. Please maintain slow speeds, obey caution signs and follow the instructions of flag-persons at all times.

Handcuffed Suspect Escapes Pursuing from Police
A Video of a police officer pursuing a handcuffed escapee is likely to go viral on the internet. The detention appears to have happened at a the Corozal Community Hospital - where the suspect jumped out of the back of the police mobile and dashed off.
The police officer set chase but then stumbled across a ditch, falling face forward. The suspect made good his escape.

BWS/BEL Joint-Utility Agreement Comes to an End
Belize Water Services (BWS) announced yesterday that it will "no longer act as a collection agent for Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) and vice versa." This comes after the BWS/BEL Joint-Utility Agreement came to an end.
BWS says that "While this transition brings changes to our payment processes, we would like to emphasise that the long-standing positive relationship between BWS and BEL remains unwavering, ensuring that both utilities will continue to work together harmoniously for the betterment of our customers and the communities we serve."

A Woman on the Western Border in Benque Viejo. $1,000 of product was confiscated from Benque Viejo Customs According to a post on social media that she bought the products at New Flags in Santa Elena.
According to the person she requested permission from Benque Viejo Customs to be able to cross the products at the border that she was heading towards the Guatemalan Border. The person recounts in a Facebook post that Customs asked her for $500 for a policy to be able to cross it, and she refused to pay it, and thats was where Benque Viejo Customs took away all the product that she was taking to Guatemala.

The Rotary Satellite Club of San Ignacio and Benque Viejo condemns the acts of mischief and vandalism made to the bio barrier project.
For the past 3 years, the club, as ambassador of the end plastic soup initiative, implemented the bio barrier project. Since its installation on the Mopan River, the bio barrier has stopped around 10,000 pounds of garbage and plastics from flowing down river and eventually ending up in our Caribbean Sea.
The Bio-barrier is an environmental project that helps to protect our rivers not just for those who use it today but also for future generations. therefore, kindly ask our community to help in its upkeep and to report any vandalism against it. This is a model project that has gotten positive attention from many and that through the collaboration with other Rotary environmental groups outside of Belize has been replicated in rivers in Argentina and our hope is to be able to replicate it across other rivers in Belize.
On Saturday May 6th, 2023 we received a report that our Bio-barrier had been cut loose and all the garbage it was holding back had flowed down the Mopan River. As a result of this, they will be removing the bio barrier to repair it but to re install it soon.
Through this medium, we take the opportunity to remind our Benqueรฑos to make an extra effort to deposit all garbage and plastics in garbage bins so that it does not end up in our beautiful Mopan River.
