Belize City Bus Terminal Cashier Under Investigation

There are reports from inside the Transport Department that multiple people are being investigated for missing funds at the Belize City Bus Terminal. Sources point to a cashier and supervisor and claims that “big money gone missing”. Police Blunder Lets Alleged Gang Member Go

Imagine walking into court, admitting you’re part of a gang, and then walking out a free man. That’s exactly what happened to thirty-three-year-old Deandre McKoy on Monday in Belize City. McKoy, who appeared without a lawyer, pleaded guilty to being a member of the Baka Land Crips. Normally, that charge means jail time, not a fine. But the case fell apart because the police report didn’t include the evidence needed to back up the charge. The magistrate couldn’t accept McKoy’s guilty plea without those details, so the charge was struck out. McKoy, an electrician and employee with the Leadership Intervention Unit, left court a free man. But this isn’t his first run-in with the law, he’s faced serious charges before, including murder and attempted murder. So, was this a legal loophole or a major oversight?

Strobe Light Overload: Safety Signal Losing Impact?

On Friday, Ronny Plett raised a concern that might make you think twice about those flashing strobe lights on the road. He says the driving public has become desensitized to them because they’re no longer unique to house movers, you’ll see them on random buses and trucks too. And that, Plett warns, could be dangerous. If drivers stop paying attention to these signals, the very lights meant to keep everyone safe might lose their impact.

Belize’s Hidden Housing Industry Moves While You Sleep

One thing everyone agrees on, stakeholders and the Ministry of Transport, is that the safest time to move prefab homes is at night. Ronny Plett, manager at Plett Home Builders, says most people don’t realize how big this industry really is because the work happens while the country sleeps. Hundreds of homes are transported under the cover of darkness every year. In fact, Plett Home Builders alone has moved more than three thousand homes over the past two decades, without a single incident.

Transport Ministry Under Fire for Flip-Flop Policies

Is the Ministry of Transport making policy on the fly? That’s the question some are asking after a string of proposals sparked public backlash and quick revisions. First, there was pushback concerning the initial proposal for a national bus company, then broad motorcycle regulations drew criticism for being too vague. Now, changes to house transportation rules have stakeholders voicing strong opposition. Today’s meeting may soften the blow, possibly scrapping parts of the ban, but the debate raises a bigger issue: Are these policies being rushed without proper consultation? C.E.O. Chester Williams insists it’s about listening and adapting. But is reactive policymaking becoming the norm?

Safety or Setback? Prefab Transport Rules Are Questioned

Are new transport rules creating more problems than they solve? That’s the question after legislation restricting the movement of fully built prefab homes on national highways left builders scrambling. Several homes are already constructed and ready for delivery, but under the updated rules, moving them has become a logistical nightmare. Earlier today, C.E.O. Chester Williams sat down with builders to find a way forward, ideas like police escorts and nighttime transport are on the table. Williams says he’s committed to helping with homes already built, but any real change will need Cabinet approval. So, is this about safety, or a sign of policy gaps that hurt businesses and consumers alike?

For most kids, the countdown to Christmas is all about excitement, dreaming of toys, games, and holiday magic. But for fourteen-year-old Cordelah Duran, the countdown looks very different. Instead of marking off days until presents, she’s counting hospital visits, enduring pain, and summoning the strength just to keep going. Cordelah is battling pediatric cancer, and while many children are writing long wish lists, her letter to her mom asked for something far more precious, something most families never have to think twice about: a normal Christmas. Shane Williams brings us her story.

Williams confirmed that arrests have already been made. “We have been able to make a number of arrests for driving under influence and other offenses,” he said, adding that enforcement will be further intensified over the holiday weekend.

As Christmas celebrations intensify across the country, transport authorities are increasing enforcement on the highways amid concerns over road safety during the holiday season.
