How to file a Complaint of Medical Negligence
Hello everyone, following up on the episode on Medical Negligence, I want to take a moment to thank all of you who’ve reached out to share your stories of medical negligence with us. The number of messages and calls we’ve received is overwhelming, and honestly, it’s heartbreaking to hear about so many cases. But if we want real change in our healthcare system, we need to take it one step further—we need to file our complaints with the right body. Change starts with us, and the only way we’ll see action is through people power.

After doing some research, I’ve learned that complaints need to be submitted to the Medical Council of Belize in the form of an Affidavit. The Medical Council can only act when a formal complaint is submitted. You will need to have a Commissioner of the Supreme Court witness and sign. If you’re wondering where to find one, so was I. I didn’t even know they existed. But there’s good news—they’re in every district, and they are laypersons. I’ve included a downloadable list of the commissioners in this caption to help you find one near you.
