David William Fonseca was born in Belize City on May 1, 1954, to Rafael and Gertrude Fonseca. He attended Holy Redeemer Primary School and graduated from St. John's College in 1972.
He started his working career at Barclay's Bank shortly after leaving school. His successful banking career propelled him to the Antigua branch where he served in a senior supervisory capacity.
In 1988, David entered electoral politics as a Belize City Councillor candidate on the People's United Party slate. He was elected and would eventually serve three terms as Mayor of Belize City, making history as the first directly elected Mayor.
One example of David's great compassion was when he hired an amazing young Belizean man with special needs, Luke Jones, and paid him from his personal funds for almost two years until he could have afforded to put Luke on the City Council payroll.
William David Fonseca was pre-deceased by his father, Rafael Fonseca; mother, Gertrude Fonseca; son, Joshua Fonseca; and sister, Andrea Cox.

Keshane Berry passed away on June 2, 2023. She lost her fight to cervical cancer after being diagnosed on May 10, 2021. She was a loving individual, a mother of a toddler, and daughter to Elaine Berry of San Ignacio Town./////

Miss Lola/Mamilola as she was affectionately passed away after medical complications. Despite being confined to a wheelchair since a road traffic incident in August 2001, Ms Awe maintained a positive energy, a sense of humor and a caring heart towards her family and friends. She always welcomed visitors to her home and was known for being the pillars in the lives of her children.
May she transition well from this life.

Phillip Ramirez was sight for sore eyes. He was always quick to give a joke or to listen and give advice. He was born in Sittee River, Stann Creek District. From an early age, he learned the meaning of hard work and ventured into the vocational sector. He eventually honed his skills in electrical, air conditioning and management, and opened the business, Ramirez AC and Electrical, with his spouse/business partner. With an adventurous spirit and an entrepreneurial outlook, he came up with the idea of Friends of Friends Outback and took great pleasure in overseeing its operations on the weekends. Eventually, his diabetic condition slowed him down in business, but not in his zest and love for life, friends and family. He fought until the end and passed away quietly in the comfort of his home and in the presence of his spouse, Liz and sister, Zorita. /////

Death Announcement
With great sadness and a keen sense of loss, the Reporter
announces the death of Mr. Leroy Bood, known also as Leroy Buckley, who passed away at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital on Wednesday morning, January 25 at 5 am.
Leroy joined the Reporter organization as a young man and
worked for us for nearly 33 years. He opted for retirement in January 2022 and received a weekly pension.
Leroy was a versatile and talented young man, and he learned
to operate Reporterโs web press, which was the only one of its kind in the country at the time, with native ingenuity and skill.
Bo, as we called him, was special because of his generosity
and his willingness to help out in any situation. He was in charge of
our pressroom and he kept the big press humming. At the time of his retirement, he was the most senior member of the Reporter staff.
Leroy never married, but he had a clutch of loyal friends, both men,
and women, who have stood by him. He lived on Kelly Street and enjoyed playing checkers with the men of the Cinderella Park Taxi Stand.
This newspaper salutes him as a worthy and loyal Belizean.
He will be greatly missed!

Mr. Parham was battling with cancer and had rapidly deteriorated over the last few months. This devastation was coupled with him being a victim of a hit and run incident in late December 2022 as he rode his bicycle in Elridgeville, Toledo. Police are yet to make an arrest for the hit and run./////

She was on her bicycle heading home on Central American Boulevard in Belize City when she was hit by an oil tanker. Having only started her career in the public service at the Elections and Boundaries Department, she was yet to achieve her dream of working in public relations. At the time of her passing she was a member of the PUP's Pickstock committee and one of their scrutineers. Her teenage years were spent dedicated to her academics as she had only just graduated from Belize Technical College in May 1992 with an Associates Degree in Economics. Prior to that she attended Wesley College, Wesley Primary School and Ms Laurel Hall's kindergarten. Raquel was very much involved in Sunday school at the Wesley Methodist Church, was a youth leader and displayed a commitment to looking after her younger siblings and cousins as they attended school and church.///// Sherrilyn Welch
