This map shows the climatological distribution of rainfall for the month of May.Typically the southern districts of Toledo and Stann Creek receive the most rainfall. The main contributing factor for rainfall in May is the northward displacement of the Intertropical Convergence Zone(ITCZ) or the monsoon trough. The trough has already established its presence over the southern Caribbean, Panama and Costa Rica. Often, low pressure systems or upper level trouhgs can "pull" the monsoon trough northward and intiate rainfall.
