When LOULA HOUSE BEATS RECORDS launched their brand,” 12 January 2012,” little did they know they would soon be topping charts, reaching double-platinum status, winning awards, travelling the world and performing at Brazil (Rio bitch party)! Undoubtedly one of Botswana favourite records label, Loula music/production has connected all kinds of people from walks of life. The versatile 2 is made of DJ SHOONO (21), whose real name is Kenna Tsholofelo Clifford and Botshelo DJ NIZZY Kgolwane (21). They all bring different elements to their music/production, with DJ NIZZY on commercial house, hip-hop, kwito, afro house and DJ SHOONO on deep soulful, ancestral, tech, tribal, afro house, Jazz, and many among others. g company Soul Candi Records, Soul Candi rocketed to international fame when they collaborated with different recording labels across the world. FROM VISUAL MIXING AND PRODUCING IN STUDIO ROOM TO FAME
The two of them met in 2008, at Junior School. They got together and started to share their music and doing production together, and were so impressed with the unique sound that soon after their academic work or studies, Loula House Beats Records was born and before too long, it was a household name!
‘I remember our first performance as a group of two DJ’s; says DJ Shoono. ‘We were still at School and we only had two songs, but the cool thing is that we came up with more songs while performing on stage! That’s basically how our record label was created or named on behalf of our excellent work. It was an amazing experience. The two quickly became successful after or when starting to be resident DJ’s at Malebogo Lounge Bar in Mmadinare village (our home village). ‘Becoming successful at such a young age was scary; continues DJ Shoono, ‘because you start worrying about what’s going to happen when you’re 18. But success is not always about money. We are living our dreams. We have touched people’s lives through music. Their first year as residents DJ’s makers are quick to admit their love of God, and pride themselves on self-discipline and on not allowing fame to go to the heads. Often compared to Deep House record company Soul Candi, they don’t let the comparison get to them. ‘You need to know who you are; says DJ Shoono. ‘Don’t try to be like anyone else, and don’t compare yourself to others. We have our own sound, and we respect Soul Candi. PUSHING SCHEDULE
Fame has a downside, because they don’t get see their friends and family as much as they’d like. ‘We get so busy and often don’t have time to see loved ones; says DJ Shoono. “That’s the hardest part about what we do’. The upside is that they have fans in every province. ‘It’s been such an incredible, blessed journey, it’s been a joyride; smiles DJ Nizzy; ‘We work really hard and we appreciate the love.’
PRIVATE LIVES
Do these talented guys have girlfriends? ‘I’m married to my visual & studio material and dating these other girl; says DJ Shoono. DJ Nizzy is in relationship, but keeps things private. DJ Shoono says that with such a busy schedule, they sometimes have to ask their manager for a day off. I sleep and catch up with my friends. FUTURE PERFECT
