NEWS UPDATE: Almost three years after the Bakwena Main Kgotla shelter (Leobo) was destroyed in a fire, Kgosi Kgari Sechele III has appointed a committee to design, and rebuild the structure. The committee known as Mosalagae is made up of professionals including architects, graphic designers, and builders amongst others. The P20 million project is expected to reflect the history of Bakwena Tribe and will be delivered in August next year. The chairperson of Mosalagae committee Stephen Mogotsi confirmed that they have been engaged in benchmarking trips, and that the sitting capacity of the envisaged Leobo is 1000, and that the tribe is welcome to share their ideas.

Baskets, wood carvings, crochets, beads and many more products are made by communities living alongside wildlife. The initiative seeks to link tourism revenue directly to community livelihoods.

TRIBUTE FOR FORMER PRESIDENT DR FESTUS MOGAE

C𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐀𝐂𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐄𝐑 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐒 𝐆𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐘𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐆𝐀𝐄

- Remembering Rre Mogae, the BDP politician & member.

Born in Serowe in 1939, Former President HE Festus Gontebanye Mogae was an economist educated at the University College, Oxford in the UK with a BA in Economics and the University of Sussex also in the UK, earning a Master’s in Development Economics. He also attended secondary school at Moeng College in Botswana.

He joined Botswana's civil service post-independence, serving as Director of Economic Affairs, Permanent Secretary to the President, and Governor of the Bank of Botswana.

In 1989 after his illustrious career as an Economist & Governor, Rre Festus Gontebanye Mogae was then specially elected to Parliament by the then President, Sir Ketumile Masire and then appointed Minister of Finance and Development Planning. In 1994 he then contested and won an MP seat at Palapye. He was then appointed Vice President after the resignation of Rre Peter Mmusi, managing the economy and enhancing financial stability. In 1998 Rre Mogae then assumed the presidency on April 1, 1998, after Sir Ketumile Masire retired from the Presidency. Rre Mogae’s term as President ended on 1st April 2008.

Botswana Confirmed As 2028 CAA Senior Africa Championships

Botswana has scored yet another milestone in athletics, getting official confirmation to host the 2028 CAA Africa Senior Championships. The journey towards bidding to host the biennial competition commenced in Cameroon in 2024 where Ghana was choosen as this year's hosts while Botswana was provisionally marked as the 2028 hosts.

NEWS UPDATE: The Leader of Opposition Botswana Congress Party Dumelang Saleshando has called on the government to be more transparent about the recently released Forensic Audit Report. Addressing the media earlier today, he said the BCP holds a strong view that an independent task force should be put in place to ensure enforcement of the findings of the Forensic Audit team, also calling for involvement of Parliament. Furthermore, he said that Public Accounts Committee and the Committee on Statutory Bodies and State Enterprises should be furnished with full information on the contents of the report as they execute their mandate.
