Drukgyel Dzong "The Victorious Fortress of Drukpas" was constructed in 1647/1649 to glorify the victory of Drukpas over the joined forces of Tibeten and Mongols.
The dzong was built to defence against the Tibetan invaders at the strategic location and is said to be the part silk road.
The fortress was destroyed by fire in 1951 and was never renovated or restored until 2016 when His Majesty the Fifth King commended the restoration of the Fortress.
Now the Dzong has been restored to its previous glory with many archeological sites unearthed with great historical significance which show the Bhutanese ways of warfare and defence in 17th Century with many underground tunnel system.

Have you every experienced the landing at the Paro International Airport? If not you should try it, its very accelerating and exciting.

The landing at Paro International Airport is considered as one of the most dangerous landings in the world and it is always featured on top 10 dangerous landings in the world.

Now, Bhutan has only handful of certified pilots who can fly in Bhutan and it is very difficult to get certified to become a full fledged pilot in Bhutan.

Because of the mountains the flight landing is considered to be dangerous and challenging as the pilot has to fly manually by avoiding all the tall mountains, and there are no radar to guide the plane into the airport. The landing procedures has been developed by experience pilots and has to follow the exact speed, landmark and elevation to be able to make a successful landing at Paro. On top of that, after making many turns and curves through the valley, the runway is visible only at the last moment as the mountains block the view of the runway. That's why landing during low visibility and at night is strictly prohibited at Paro International Airport as the landing heavily depends upon the visibility of the pilot.

Follow the link below to experience the most dangerous landing shot by a Bhutanese from the cockpit of an Airbus while landing at Paro International Airport.

Have you ever heard of a village known as Wangdar in Goling under Zhemgang Dzongkhag in Bhutan. The village to the people of Zhemgang is known as the "rice bowl of Khengrig Nam Sum" as it is the major rice producing village of Zhemgang.

In this modern era where everything is dictated with technology, the elusive village hidden behind the hills of Kheng Brumbri still practices the traditional method of harvesting paddy. The village has a very beautiful and scenic outlook and one would eventually fall in love with it and would have never imagined for such a beautiful village to have existed in the hills and forests of Khengrig Nam Sum.

I heard a lot about rice from a village known as Goling in Kheng and had always wanted to know what kind of rice they cultivated.
According to the locals the paddy seeds were first brought to the village from a place known as Korphu and that's why the name of the rice cultivated there is known as Korphukpa but interestingly the name of the rice at Korphu is known as Chakharpa as it was brought to Korphu from India. They also have a rice named sgarchokpa for the rice seeds which were brought from Eastern Bhutan.

Traditionally, in the past the youngs and olds would gather at the time of paddy harvesting and would pray for bounty full harvest by offering "tsok" and "serkim" to the local deity and would shout "Baap shay, baap shay" which literally means "fall down". So they would pray for loads of grains to fall while threshing the paddy grains by shouting "baap shay, baap shay" and singing songs to please the deity of harvest.

Follow the link below to watch the video to experience the paddy harvesting day at Wangdar village with friendly people of Kheng.

Paro Taktsang is one of the most visited/ hiked monastery in Bhutan but did you all know that there are many other monasteries above the three hills of taksang with rich historical importance.
There are 3 important monasteries above paro taktsang know as Tashi-Tsemo, Ugyen-Tsemo and Yoezer-Gang with rich history.
1. Tashi-Tsemo: It is also known as the Taktsang Zangdhopelri which is at the left hill of taktsang. you can hike to the temple from taksang or from a canopy before reaching taktsang viewpoint. It will take you 2 and half hours to hike till the temple from the taktsang base.
According to the Temple attendant ( kong-nyer) the temple was built by Agay Haap when he was the Paro Penlop in 18th Century probably during 1800s (no one knew the exact year).

2. Ugyen-Tsemo: The temple is located on a hill which is right above the Paro taktsang. It will take you about 30 to 45 minutes to hike till the temple from Tashi-Tsemo.
A temple was said to have been erected in 15th Century by Uwo Yeshi Bum who's descendents were said to have been the caretaker of Paro-taktsang. The temple was raised by fire in 1951 and was renovated in 1958.

3. Yoezer gang or Öselgang: Is a meditation centre for monks and nuns and the temple is some 20 to 30 minutes walk away from Ugyen-Tsemo.
According to the temple attendant (kong-nyer) the temple is said to be constructed on a lake and it was a secret place where Drubtob Jinpa Gyeltsen (brother to Gyalsey Tenzin Ranbgay) had meditated. It is the only temple around taktsang to have never been raged by fire.

Those are the brief history of all the Temples I had visited during the hike with Paro-Taktsang and I think most of the people are aware of Taktsang's history and importance.

Follow the link to watch me hike to all those temples in a day.

Paro Zurig is located just above the Paro Rinpung Dzong and the trails towards the Zurig temple is beautiful and scenic as you can enjoy the panaromic view of paro vally starting from Bondey till Paro town.
The hike till the Zurig from the Paro Taa dzong is about 1 hour and will take you 2 hour if you hike till Uma resort (end point)- here the time for too and forth hike.
There is also a cave just below the Zurig temple which you can enter into and get the explorer vibes. The significance of the cave is not really known but it has an alter for offering inside it. You can also see bats in the cave if you are lucky.
Finally, if you do not like longer hikes and cannot walk the Zurig trails are perfect for you and you can even take your family with you as it is easy, beautiful and adventurous.
