1. Handball Incident:
I agree it should have been a penalty, but referees are human and make mistakes, especially when they must make split-second decisions. The angles we see in photos or on-screen replays aren’t the same as what the referee sees in real-time from the field, often from a different or more limited perspective. It’s important to be realistic: referees make live decisions on fast-paced actions, while we analyze focused, slowed-down, and telecasted scenes. No referee makes an error intentionally. If there had been VAR, the outcome might have been different.

2.Red Card Incident:
Nepali player No. 13 is talented but very aggressive. She made a dangerous challenge, showing her studs and endangering her opponent, which warranted a caution. Already on one yellow card, this second caution naturally led to a red card. Furthermore, her unsporting conduct, including confronting the referee, may result in a fine or ban for a few games.

3.Goal Recall:
The referee assumed all Indian players were in their own half, which would allow Nepal to restart the game according to the rules. However, some Indian officials were still on the field, and the referee failed to notice this. According to the laws of the game, even after a goal is awarded, the referee can retract the decision if play hasn’t resumed, in consultation with the assistant and fourth officials.

To my Nepali brothers and sisters, I kindly ask that we refrain from spreading hateful comments, insults, or bullying. While I respect Nepali football fans, it’s been disheartening to witness some recent behavior that resembles hooliganism. Fans threw bottles, and it was troubling to see star player Bhandari Sambaa and others pleading with Nepali fans not to do so.

Regardless, I stand in support of Choki.

A Heartfelt Appeal: Compassion for Her Son

"I pen this with courage, as Sonam Choki, the mother of a 12-year-old boy who recently became the target of a social media uproar for simply asking his king, "Your Majesty, Kupar Che Zhu Gayla" What should have been a moment of joy and admiration has turned into a painful experience, transforming a day of celebration into a nightmare for our family.
At the stadium, my son was swept away by a whirlwind of excitement and nerves, completely immersed in the festive atmosphere. While navigating a small gap, he rested his hand on the railing for balance. His head was not bowed; he wanted to make sure his voice reached his king, hoping for a moment of recognition for his heartfelt request. And yes, he held a phone—not to capture a moment for himself, but to ask for a photo with someone he deeply admires. In that moment, his youthful enthusiasm to seize a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity eclipsed his awareness of etiquette and demeanour.
What followed has been truly heartbreaking. A brief video, slowed down and sensationalized, circulated on social media, inviting a deluge of harsh and venomous comments from those hiding behind anonymity. Strangers scrutinized every detail of my son’s posture, his demeanour, and his actions, launching unwarranted attacks against him. This scrutiny extended to us as his parents, who were also criticized and accused of failing in our upbringing—our values and efforts questioned by those who know nothing about our lives.
Imagine the pain of watching your child—innocent and vulnerable—being dissected by strangers. Despite our attempts to shield him from this negativity, my son learned of the comments through a friend on TikTok. The impact has been profound, shaking him in ways that no child should ever have to endure. Digital imprints remain forever, and the echoes of this incident will follow him long after the moment has passed.
This once- independent and confident boy, who had been sleeping in his own room since the age of four, now seeks the comfort of our bed at night, longing for the safety of our presence. He has withdrawn, shying away from social media, and struggles even to meet our gaze. Just recently, with a shaky voice, he said, "Ama, don’t ever force me to attend such events again."
As his parents, we stand unwavering in our support, determined to help him regain his confidence and foster the love he has for his king. The same "disrespectful boy" that many have criticized is the one who removed his raincoat in respect and love for his king standing in the rain.
In our cherished country, where Gross National Happiness guides our values and compassion is rooted in our Buddhist beliefs, I believe there is a need for kindness—especially towards children. A young mind should not be subjected to such cruelty. If correction or guidance is warranted, it should come wrapped in empathy, not malice.
To those who recognized the innocence in my son’s actions and responded with understanding, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Your ability to see the distinction between a child’s actions and those of an adult is truly commendable.
Finally, I urge our society to spare a child from undue judgment and to resist the allure of herd mentality, driven by harsh and anonymous commentary. If our son has failed to live up to the etiquette that is the root of our culture, we ask for forgiveness and compassion. Let us work together to create a community that uplifts each other, rather than one that diminishes the spirits of those who are most vulnerable.
