Carissa Nimah laaa

🐉 11 Days to DLF 2023! We are excited to introduce our lineup of esteemed speakers for the festival.

✒️ Carissa Nimah is the Chief Marketing Officer for the Department of Tourism, Bhutan. Prior to this, Carissa was based in Asia for 8 years and was the Chief Commercial Officer for a global luxury hospitality brand with resorts in Thailand and the Maldives, where she oversaw their sales, marketing, revenue and reservations teams globally. Before that, she was in the UAE for a decade, working in luxury jewellery and PR and communications.

Originally a journalist, Carissa has spent almost 20 years working for some of the world’s top luxury brands, and is personally motivated by creativity, purpose and ethical business. She holds a Masters degree in Strategic Marketing, as well as two undergraduate degrees in Politics and Journalism from Australian universities. Carissa lives in Thimphu with her husband and daughter. She is a keen motorcycle rider and also enjoys traveling, hiking, reading and yoga.

I hope that this piece contributes to attracting tourists from the Middle East. Most travelers from that part of the world would enjoy visiting Bhutan, especially during the summer months when our cool, moist temperate forests can provide relief from the sweltering heat that can reach upwards of 50 degrees Celsius!

Morning Supplication

ཐོ་རེངས་མལ་ནས་ལྡང་བའི་དུས།
When rising from bed in the early morning, say:

དུས་གསུམ་སངས་རྒྱས་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི་ངོ་བོ་དཔལ་ལྡན་རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
dü sum sangyé tamché kyi ngowo pelden tsawé lama rinpoché khyeno
Essence of all buddhas of the three times, glorious, precious root guru, think of me!

བདག་གི་རྒྱུད་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་ཏུ་གསོལ། །
dak gi gyü jin gyi lap tu söl
I supplicate you, bless my mindstream!

ལུས་ལ་བདེ་བ་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
lü la dewa kyewar jin gyi lop
Bless me so that bliss arises in my body.

ངག་ལ་ནུས་པ་འབར་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
ngak la nüpa barwar jin gyi lop
Bless me so that my speech blazes with power.

སེམས་ལ་རྟོགས་པ་འཆར་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
sem la tokpa charwar jin gyi lop
Bless me so that realization dawns in my mind.

ཚེ་འདི་བློ་ཡིས་ཐོང་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
tsé di lo yi tongwar jin gyi lop
Bless me so that I can give up thoughts of this life.

ངེས་འབྱུང་བློ་སྣ་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
ngéjung lo na kyewar jin gyi lop
Bless me so that renunciation arises within.

བདག་འཛིན་འཁྲུལ་པ་འཇིག་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
dak dzin trülpa jikpar jin gyi lop
Bless me that self-grasping and delusion dissolve.

བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་མཆོག་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
jangchup sem chok kyewar jin gyi lop
Bless me that the supreme heart of awakening arises.

ཞེས་བླ་མ་ལ་མོས་གུས་ཕུར་ཚུགས་སུ་བྱའོ། །མཁན་པོ་ངག་ཕྱུང་གི་གསུངས་ཡིན་ནོ།། །།
Recite this with piercing, heartfelt devotion to the guru. This was spoken by Khenpo Ngakchung.

Beautiful Paro Fortress from 1640s.

Rinpung Dzong referred to as Paro Fortress is a Buddhist monastery and fortress of the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school in Paro Dzongkhag, Bhutan. It houses the district Monastic Body as well as government administrative offices of Paro Dzongkhag. It is listed as a tentative site in Bhutan's list for UNESCO inclusion for now.

“The Paro valley looked like a backcloth for an Arthurian legend. The tall houses with their colourful wood-carvings round the windows stood dramatically among the paddy-fields. It was like stumbling on Shangri La-valleys completely cut off by mountains from the teeming bazaars of India to the south and the wastes of the high plateau of Tibet to the north.”
