A More Sonically Accurate Representation of Bahamas Junkanoo - Colours Boxing Day 2022

ONE WOMAN, ONE MIC

One of the main ideas here is capturing sound as it would be experienced in person, whereas you hear the long strong crescendo of the ensemble as a whole when 'dey comin' and then layers and sublayers unfold as the musicians pass (music reach).
Another big idea here is the Spectator POV. The immersion experience of feeling like you're actually there. You'll notice that you can hear the chatter of the crowd but it is in its place and adds, rather than takes away from the sonic experience.
I got at least some of every major group and 2 minor ones so more audio is coming. Like this page or subscribe to the Big Tune Machine YouTube channel for notifications of new uploads.

Including The Stop & The Start Back Up - Colours Boxing Day Junkanoo 2022

Colours is a known crowd pleaser & one of my favourite groups. It's like "What colours are they gonna use? How are they gonna use it? Is it gonna be 2 colours or 3 colours or just one?? Wonder how it ga tie into their theme??" No matter the question, it is generally accepted that we'll get visual AND musical delights from Colours.

Colours has signature moves, from the colour schemes and palettes to the decisively on-point sound. They are the disruptors of the 'B' Category of Junkanoo groups, dominating since their inception with innovative ideas and professional delivery.

I got in place just as the lead pieces, banner and lead dancers were pushing forward into place. You can hear me dragging the stand into place in the beginning and generator noise from the food vendors nearby.

What It Means When It's An 'A' Group & "Dey Cominnn" - Roots Boxing Day Junkanoo 2022

Everything in Junkanoo is a process. Getting to Bay is one process. Getting lined up is another. Then there's actually starting and for spectators, the growing anticipation once they do start of knowing "Dey Cominnn" because soon and very soon, but not TOO soon "Da Music Reach"!! And Junkanoo SWEET!!

Live, Junkanoo literally takes time to reach. Even if you're at the start of the route, you've got to wait for the group to line up and get positioned to start. While that's going on, the road is lined with people speculating about all aspects of the parade until dey stop coming cuz the music reach

WARRIORS!!! Lined Up & Licking Off!!

The excitement was absolutely electrifying out there. Family KNEW they were gonna win. The crowd knew they were gonna win. The rushing was just a formality.

This clip has A LOT going on. First, you hear the rumblings of ppl getting into position and the drums egging them on. There's the hype man on the sound system and he lock right in with the group and the crowd.

And of course, that absolute pestilence and annoyance of a person who gatta run on bout Saxons and how Family come from Saxons blah blah blah. Classic and true to form. He eventually got roll right out.

This mic is something else. Listen with headphones or earbuds if you get the chance.

Also, wish the whole idea here was to tease yinna but let's just say this clip gave me my for the night. Junkanoo is too much fun to forget to engage the "Hold" switch.
