Presently there are over 20 radio stations in our Market, though some of these are strictly music based options that do not offer traditional radio services like listener interaction, weather, news and entertainment. There are also about six Inspirational broadcasters in the mix.
As for rating/ranking numbers, unfortunately because of our relatively small Market size there is no independent organization that is commissioned to provide this data. The demographic that seems to have the most concentration would be the 18-30 age group.
in 1994 when Island FM was opened by famed broadcaster Sir Charles Carter, who was recently Knighted for his efforts to preserve Bahamian Music and Culture, Island FM became just the fourth private radio station in the Bahamas.
Island FM’s signal strength covers Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas completely and can be heard throughout the Country via Cable Channel 953
Why Radio?
Radio is still the most cost effective marketing vehicle in our country…… therefore an invaluable advertising and promotional tool. Plus radio is indispensible in the Bahamas where oral traditions still supersede all others.
Why Island FM?
Being refreshingly loyal to Bahamian Music and Culture, Island FM has in the past three years really gained momentum. Especially so, as so many of our competitors have decided to do the opposite.
We have also intelligently married our music format with a catalog of programs that are very popular and appealing to all ages.
Island FM is the only station in New Providence with a true niche, why is this important? Well it’s important because as with any advertiser your biggest concern is that your commercial gets heard. With, for example multiple radio stations featuring Hip Hop music consumers are, and do, switch stations within their favorite genres when the station they are listening to at the time goes on commercial break, why wont they...when they have other options. This is not the same with our listeners who know that no other station is promoting Bahamian Music and Culture like Island FM...The chances of your advertising actually being heard are greater on Island FM.
Radio audiences during prime time morning drive (absolutely the most successful time frame for radio advertising) are driven by the popularity of Morning Shows.
In this regard, Island FM's "Da Mornin' Boil" has proven to be a leader.
Advertisers in "Da Boil" have taken advantage of this and have received very good results. The packages that we are proposing will allow you to tap into this, not just by AD placement but more importantly by conversation advertising through live reads and live interviews.
We can promote your products and services as a part of our regular conversation which we have found to be very listener friendly and very effective when combined with traditional radio spots. And all manner of Bahamians listen to "Da Mornin' Boil" from the young professional to the more mature and everybody in between.
Island FM’s programming in the afternoon is more energetic and has become a favorite for our younger audiences.
Tammy Is the host of “Tradewinds” which is our most diverse show featuring a wonderful blend of music from the Bahamas, The Caribbean and the World. “Tradewinds” airs 12pm-3pm Monday – Friday.
Energy for the afternoon drive comes from Cool Breeze and his “Island Shakedown”…up-tempo Island music and exciting elements including The Soca Twist and the Reggae Mixdown are featured. Island Vibes a live DJ mix show each Friday afternoon 5pm-7pm has gained popularity with popular local DJ’s showcasing their talents.
