WHAT’S ALL THE BUZZ ABOUT?👇Thank you to our friends at BUZZ for making a huge shift from plastic food containers to boxes.

And LOOK 👀… the boxes even say “KEEP BERMUDA BEAUTIFUL”! 💚 This is BIG news and we appreciate how BUZZ continues to focus on ways to reduce their environmental footprint.

It’s also a REMINDER that each one of us can make choices to REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE, all of which can be better for our health and contribute to a more positive impact on the environment.

Thank you, BUZZ, and thank you, BERMUDA, for all that you do to help keep our island clean, healthy and beautiful.

Faith leaders are calling for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty. Why?

The fossil fuel industry benefits from subsidies of $11m every minute even though the burning of fossil fuels is responsible for 86% of CO2 emissions. Government action has been painstakingly slow & caters too much to the reckless & deceptive fossil fuel corporations.

1000+ faith leaders and institutions are part of a growing movement that recognizes fossil fuels are the greatest contributor to climate change. Unless countries curb fossil fuel production in addition to tightening greenhouse gas emission restrictions, nations will continue to overshoot their already insufficient emissions targets.

Great news.

Montreal just endorse the Fossil Fuel Treaty!

The vote happened this afternoon and marks the seventh Canadian city to join this campaign.

On the whole, Québec and southern Ontario are warming twice as rapidly as the rest of the world with northern regions warming three times as fast. The most recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reaffirms the major urgency to phase out fossil fuels to stave off the worst impacts of the climate crisis and has been referred to as a “file of shame, cataloguing the empty pledges that put us firmly on track towards an unliveable world” by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Montreal’s province of Quebec has recently voted to ban new oil and gas exploration and shut down existing drill sites within three years. Meanwhile, the Canadian government approved, just days after the report’s publication, a $12bn offshore oil project to drill an estimated 300 million barrels of light crude oil in the Atlantic Ocean. This adds to the country’s ongoing and contradictory rhetoric on climate leadership such as looking to increase their price on carbon but also providing approximately $17bn in public finance to three fossil fuel pipelines between 2018 and 2020.

Tzeporah Berman, Chair for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative and Stand.earth International Program Director, said: “This decision by the City of Montreal to endorse the Fossil Fuel Treaty is hugely important. While Federal politicians continue to grow the problem and make decisions that prioritize polluters over people, it is clear that cities like Montreal understand the importance of aligning policies with climate science and the importance of taking leadership positions. Nationally, we see the Trudeau government's decision to approve the Trans Mountain pipeline the day after they declared a climate emergency and then approve Bay du Nord oil drilling the day after the Intergovernmental Report on Climate Change called for an end to fossil fuel project expansion.”

Did you know? Refugee Rights Day is celebrated each year in Canada on April 4th. On this date of 1985, the Supreme Court of Canada recognized that everyone, including refugee claimants, is protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Today, we celebrate this decision towards a more inclusive and equitable world for all, but we also recognize that much work remains to be done.

By raising awareness we can show our support to refugees and forcibly displaced populations, and advocate for more resettlement opportunities. We can all contribute to building more welcoming communities where all feel safe and have their basic rights respected and protected.

This year, our theme is MONEY FASHION POWER 💰

Wealth and power are concentrated in the hands of a few, and growth and profit are rewarded above all else. Big brands and retailers produce too much too fast, and manipulate us into a toxic cycle of overconsumption. Meanwhile, the majority of people that make our clothes are not paid enough to meet their basic needs.

Now is the time to rise up together for a regenerative, restorative and revolutionary new fashion system.
