THE BUZZ...

"When I set out to write, direct and co-produce my first feature film, 21 DAYS, the task seemed daunting. I was working on a limited budget, yet wanted to have a first rate budget look which included casting strong actors. Since my background in the entertainment industry began in acting, I realized over the years, as I was segueing into writing and directing, that there's a strong correlation between good acting in a film and its ultimate success. The audience can forgive many production value limitations, but they will not accept bad acting, as nothing draws the audience out of a film more than a poor performance. I had a dilemma on my hands. How do I cast good, strong actors, on a limited budget? The answer came in a meeting with Luis Robledo, the head of ACTOR’S GYM and an amazing actor in his own right. I had heard glowing things about Luis’s ACTORS GYM from other filmmakers and was impressed when I saw his reel of work. Luis and ACTORS GYM took on the challenge of not only casting my film, but Luis served as both its associate producer and had a cameo role in the film.

21 DAYS had 3 main roles, and about a dozen supporting parts, of which Luis fielded through over 6,000 submissions to cast the right actors. Luis did not tell me which actors were part of ACTOR’S GYM, until the very end, when I learned half of the actors we selected were- or had been- members of his ACTORS GYM training. His actors simply seemed the most polished, most prepared, out of the majority of candidates we auditioned. And now, a year later, and 5 festivals screenings to date, yielding 6 awards which include: 4 BEST PICTURE, 1 BEST DIRECTOR and 1 for BEST ACTOR, 21 DAYS owes a huge debt of thanks to Luis and ACTORS GYM!"
-KATHLEEN BEHUN-HAFETZ,
writer/director, 21 Days

"As a filmmaker, The Actor's Gym is a remarkable resource for discovering actors that work very hard at their craft. I watched every single one of their fully-produced scene videos while casting Down and Dangerous."
-ZAK FORSMAN,
writer/director
Sabi Pictures

“Luis creates a safe environment for actors and then, with expert and subtle guidance, brings out their strengths and empowers them to give powerful and nuanced performances for the camera. He is gentle, yet firm, knowledgeable and extraordinarily insightful as director and teacher. I highly recommend The Actor’s Gym for all actors.”
-ANNE NORDA,
Writer/Director &
Moviemaker Magazine Columnist

"This is the best on-camera class I've taken in LA or NYC. Luis is brilliant, empowering, and wise. Being a masterful actor himself, he has a wonderful way of speaking with actors in an inspiring and affirming way . The structure of the class creates the perfect environment for exponential growth. My work has grown leaps and bounds since I started taking here and unlike many other classes, I have the footage to show for it. The production quality of the scenes that we shoot every week is top notch (miles above any of the student films I've done in LA - and unlike student films you don't have to hunt down the filmmaker to get the footage), the editing is high quality, and while I'm honing my acting skills all the time, I'm also becoming an expert at mastering new material in a short amount of time, managing scene preparation on set, and perfecting my ability to nail a scene in one take. Something I love about this class too is that the other students are fantastic, I find myself learning from them constantly. I highly recommend this class to any actor aspiring to up their game in a big way!!!"
-STEPHAN STUBBINS,
Actor & CFCA student

"Luis has been an amazing resource to me in all aspects of art, business, and life. He is an amazing mind, a skilled technician, and a truly generous artist. Seriously -- you rarely find someone this gifted."
-DESEAN TERRY,
Actor & CFCA alumnus

"I've come a long way since starting class at AG about 6 months ago. The ONE-TAKE shooting style has prepared me immensely to perform with ease on the real set."
