While has been quiet lately, ZÖJ has been knocking and kicking hard on all doors since returning from their European tour, winning the APRA AMCOS Award for Excellence, being nominated in the Music Victoria Best Regional Act, performing at the and Now Festival, getting ready for their "Where are you from?" (Italian translation) "The end of 2023 gave us Fil O Fenjoon, the debut of Zöj, a Victorian duo consisting of Brian O’Dwyer on percussion and Gelareh Pour on vocals and Persian kamancheh. Coming into the spotlight in 2020 for their unique Farsi version of Nick Cave’s ‘Into My Arms,’ praised by the Persian artist, creating a feverish anticipation for this album and high expectations from specialized critics, we are faced with a work of immense beauty. Pour’s astonishing mastery of the kamancheh and her evocative interpretations of Persian poetry, combined with O’Dwyer’s hypnotic and improvised percussive textures, give rise to a dreamlike fusion of Persian music and experimentation, self-defined as post-Persian anarcho experimentalism.
