With a firm appetite for timeless and vibrant music from all corners of the world, the Souma catalogue reveals the fascination for unearthed repertories, obscure artists and less explored urban and rural music cultures. Souma was the nickname of the famous Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, who devoted her life to music and always stood strong in a world of men. Souma’s first release was the long-awaited rare soundtrack compilation of Egyptian 70s star keyboard player Hany Mehanna.

A two-hours live mixtape of the impactful musical after-sun shower at a small countryside summer festival near the Dijle River in Tremelo. That day I mixed for more than seven hours at different time slots, bringing around 100 kg of records.

Packing for another trip to the one place called Romano רומנו for their annual Romano Record Fair ☉ 24.6. We’ll be bringing a selection of rare originals and a batch of Souma Records and Radio Martiko label catalog. Souma will also play a one hour set of tunes directly from the sales boxes alongside Donna Leake, Wa jima Tapes, Amit Izcar and Alon Shay. Two more support acts by Souma will take place on Sunday and Monday night at the other magical spots Port Said and Nuweiba . Please come!

The last hot days make us reminiscing about our road trip trough Epirus with in the summer of 2022. This shot was taken in Preveza at a panegyri with the clarinet legend Petro-Loukas Chalkias (always in his trademark blue suit) right before his magical performance with the kompania of Antonis Kiritsis. He’s now almost 90 years old and still blowing strong!
