The EU is getting its own 'ESTA', and it's called 'ETIAS'
The European Commission announced its plans to require all visitors from countries who do not need a visa to enter the Schengen Zone to apply to ETIAS - the European Travel Information and Authorization System. ETIAS approval will be mandatory for all countries who are Schengen visa-free. It'll be similar to the American ESTA and the application will be fully digital. The Commission claims it will be a matter of minutes before some 95% of all applicants will get their approval. The cost is estimated to amount to 5 euro.
