AI is reshaping journalism faster than public trust and transparency can keep up.

While AI tools are already widely used in newsrooms, audiences remain uneasy about how they are deployed and who is accountable when things go wrong.

Trust is becoming the defining currency of journalism. Crucially, it is conditional. People are more accepting of AI when its use is clearly disclosed and remains under human editorial control.

As Europe steps up its response to disinformation, the real challenge may be less about detecting falsehoods and more about rebuilding confidence in how journalism is produced, governed and explained.

- Reparations loan failure – for now: leaders agreed to instead fund Ukraine with a loan of €90 billion using headroom from the EU budget. That came alongside a pledge to keep working on a reparations loan package.

Ahead of tomorrow's European Council meeting, Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has criticised plans to splash around €1 billion of taxpayers' money refurbishing an EU building in Brussels. First reported by Euractiv in October, the overhaul of the ageing Justus Lipsius building could run to much higher than the €800M stated by Meloni.
