Live room and separate recording room for solo artists and small to medium-sized bands, all genres. Constructed by Roald Duchateau during the 2020 lockdown, this project started off as a simple soundproof room to play drums (and avoid annoying the neighbours). Little by little, the idea of a homestudio took shape and at one point it was decided to claim the whole space, and to make an insulated se
paration wall (with window pane) to divide the 50m2 basement floor into two dedicated spaces. One for live music and one control room. What was initially to be a private "playroom" turned out into a small, cosy and stylish bunker with a 70's vibe that can be rented for short and longer periods of recording and music production. Stand Out is the name of a song - released on vinyl in 1981 - by Antwerp "Belpop"-band Scooter, in which Roald's father Herwig (RIP) played drums. Herwig also produced and recorded the Scooter albums, which kickstarted a career in Belgium's eighties music recording and production scene. As a kid, Roald was present at many of the band's rehearsals in the basement of Herwig's home, and Roald frequently tagged along with his parents backstage when Scooter played their live gigs. Later on, many of Roald's days were spent with Herwig (in studio ACE) during recording sessions, but also when Herwig went live mixing in Belgium and the Netherlands. Without having studied audio-engineering or any musical instruments, Roald does not have the ambitions of his father, but simply chose to pursue one of his lifelong interests and passions : great-sounding music. Hence the studio is named after this very first vinyl single Roald owned and one of his favorite Scooter songs... and to commemorate the music that Scooter made, honor his father and thank him for the wisdom his father gave him before he passed away. The objective is to allow enough freedom and "creative time" for both the artist(s) and the engineer. In addition, one goal is to enable young / starting musicians to work on songs and sounds in a studio environment and produce demo's without needing the big budget or limited timeframe that more professional studios command. If the vibe is good, and enough space and time is given, we believe the outcome will speak for itself. The studio runs on Logic Pro X through an Allen & Heath 24-track A/D mixing console, with a small outboard battery of analog and digital dynamics and effects units. The live room is equipped with a modest array of instruments and microphones, get in touch if you would like to know more.
