Renowned musicians from the early music scene Lucile Boulanger, Simon Pierre and Olivier Fortin present imaginative, graceful chamber music from the French Baroque. Set at the political crossroads between Louis XIV and Louis XV, while Johann Sebastian Bach brought the German Baroque to its peak, the viola da gamba, characteristic of the French Baroque at the time, was experiencing its last "golden hour", as the violin rose in prominence. Boismortier, Rebel and Francœur, in their elegant French style, experiment with the roll patterns of a trio sonata, the most popular Baroque form. They transform the viola da gamba into both a solo and accompanying instrument, resulting in a rich, inventive sound.
