STOP, while obviously a potent hooner, is wonderfully quirky. Gentle piano chords and some sweeping atmosphere’s in the intro gently devolve into a bass-driven, club-ready weapon with a vocal sample that pops out at you and some excellent evolving drum work.

That’s right people, Midas Touch are back again with another couple of slices of homemade audio goodness, this time coming courtesy of Belgian duo BassDubbers 🇧🇪

For those that don’t know, BassDubbers have been doing the rounds now with releases on the likes of Hyperactivity Music and Four Corners that have served to really cement their solid, yet stripped back style.

That style is on full display here with two pieces of funky, minimal tech.

The whole thing is business as usual at Midas HQ: deep, chunky yet funky minimal D&B served ice cold.

MIDAS brings together more than a decade of friendship and an artistic collaboration that was born with Midas Touch Recordings in 2020, and presents it in the form of a finely crafted two-track single.

Sound of the Beat is a mean, low-slung and percussive weapon of a tune, set off by the vocal talents of the legendary COPPA. It’s dark, it’s funky and it’s very cool.

On the flip, What I Got is a sample-laden stripped back affair that’s a DJ’s wet dream of a stepper. Humming along at 174 bpm it’s an ideal mid-set weapon, and a welcome addition to any DJ’s library.

Thus begins MIDAS, the first entry in what is set to be a long, fruitful career working at the bleeding edge of D&B.

Midas Touch are once again plumbing the depths of their thriving local scene, calling on the prodigious talents of Belgian duo FarFlow.

They have worked their magic and conjured up the Smoke & Mirrors EP. It’s four tracks that occupy a broad sonic church but are very much FarFlow tunes, with all the creativity and attention to detail that encapsulates.

Part 2 takes a running dive off the deep end into the bleeding edge of avantgarde 170 bpm music. All Black even takes a bite of the forbidden fruit that is tekno before stepping back into roaring D&B. It is mindblowing on a rig, trust. Break Point pushes the envelope the other way, with some alternative, almost indie flavours that lead to a powerful, roaring crescendo.

All in all, it’s epic in every sense of the word.
