In Bangladesh, turning the dream of becoming a pilot into reality is particularly difficult. Those who remain committed to their dreams must put up with significant financial burdens, obsolete training facilities, and uncertainty about future career prospects. These challenges often force aspiring pilots to make tough decisions, either switching to a different career field or, in some cases, seeking training opportunities abroad.

Akib's academic journey began at Jessore Institute Government Primary School, Jashore, followed by Daud Public School and College, Jashore, and then Jhenaidah Cadet College, where he passed his SSC and HSC exams. The dawn of a new year brings with it hopes of a fresh start and a renewed sense of optimism. To honour the completion of yet another revolution of the earth, the entire world quite literally illuminates the earth with vivid, flickering flashes. Amidst our celebrations, however, we often forget about those who live alongside us. Despite conversations surfacing every year about the adverse effects of fireworks on animals as well as the environment, these concerns fall on deaf years.

This new year's eve, we wanted to spark this necessary conversation again by looking back at "When the sky lights up", a comic strip by Mohamaya Kandoo- মহামায়া কান্ড published in the last issue of Rising Stars in 2023.

Students in our schooling system are encouraged from a young age to pursue engineering, medicine, or simply study at a public university. They are seldom given the full picture of what a career in these fields might look like and are rarely presented with options outside of these choices.

Furthermore, our colleges don't have career or guidance counsellors to educate an admission candidate on the pros and cons of career choices. As a result, there is no adult to sit down and talk to them about their academic strengths and weaknesses which would have aided them in choosing a career better suited for themselves.

"Each day seems to arrive bearing updates on inflation and food insecurity. The air is thick with the strain, particularly among those for whom meals have become an unpredictable luxury.

As a public university student, I am no stranger to the diverse backgrounds of my fellow students. Some, who live with their families, have to put up with the economic turmoil. Others, however, who live away from home face the brunt of rising commodities all by themselves and are forced to make tough calls when shopping for groceries. Figuring out one's daily needs requires asking uncompromising questions: How many packets of noodles are required for a dozen eggs? How many cups of tea does one forgo for tomorrow's meal?" writes Azra Humayra.

From the very first track, "wacced out murals", it's evident that this album is still very fresh. Most of what is present here has probably not been in the works for long. This strikes me as a surprise, as much of Kendrick's earlier discography consists of meticulously prepared projects. Instead, GNX chooses to be unrefined, allowing Kendrick to carry over the energy he had in his rap feud and apply it throughout the 44-minute runtime of the album. The result is a gorgeous yet haphazard mishmash of songs with incredible west-coast-style production, creative sample usage, and some incredibly surprising features.

Social media is hailed as a democratising force, giving voices to the voiceless and connecting millions across boundaries. But in Bangladesh, it has also become a breeding ground for gender-based cyber violence, where danger thrives as rapidly as connection.
